For anyone interested, I heard that the Yao of Xishuanbanna will be celebrating their annual Panwang Jie on the 20th. It will be in Yaoqu, 40K of Mengla-town on the border of Laos. Mengla can be reached from Jinghong by bus (5hrs?), or maybe direct wopu bus from Kunming.
Panhu, which is also called Panwang and Pangu, is the name of a legendary dragonlike dog. Panhu is actually a totem to the Yao people. Many Yao people believe that Panhu is their first ancestor. They worship him and offer sacrifice to him and gradually a particular fete came into being---Panwang Festival.
i saw them at walmart xiao xi men, they came with eye covers/shades. they were on a rack in the aisle near the wall next to the auto accessories section.
I called them to ask about evening train for a friend to Guangzhou-they said they had 11:50pm, nothing earlier. So my friend went down to get the ticket the next day asking the time, and the girl said 11:50 pm as well. Turns out the train was for the morning and she didn't realize it till too late (it was printed on the ticket but she forgot they use military time).
Anyway, my friend ended up getting a free ticket for the next morning after making a scene. They interviewed her and took her photo receiving the ticket for the railway paper- this was on 8-8-08.
Also, often they don't have tickets that the train station will.
Thanks everyone for the advice! Looks like they've moved to 14 Yuantong Bei Lu. I'm glad they at least have one in Kunming! They diagnosed the problem in less than 24 hrs and are shipping in a new logic board from Shanghai.
