I didn't buy the most recent LPlanet guide, but most guide books talk about the Camelia Hotel...which has just reopened. I know this because my hotel, called the Badi, is just next door. I found the Badi hotel to be a great value, modern, clean, wifi with great breakfasts and reasonably quiet if don't get a room facing the street...(from 130 to 200 RMB) a night. Just thought I'd recommend this place (HuanchenBeilu) if anyone has people coming to visit. Only problem, they can't speak English to save their lives!
Just for others' future reference, the China International Post Office provided a box and 2 kinds of bubble wrap for my 9 kilos of books which I sent off for 280 RMB, Surface Air Limited. People there were patient and helpful....don't know if I'll ever see my books again, but hey...
It turns out that sf express will ship to the States but NOT to France and their prices are exorbitant. I think I'll lug my books down to the main post office, Beijing Lu?, and see what they offer in the way of packaging. In no real hurry to get them to France...maybe I'll buy some of that bubble wrap at the Jianshe stationary shop. Have you got a precise address for that? Thanks!
I found postcards of Lijiang and Dali at the post office...but can't seem to find any at the post office or the bookstores in Kunming. Am I looking in the wrong places?
