As far as I know, the Catholic church as such is illegal in China, there only is the state-controlled Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association which is somewhat different as it appoints it's own priests and does not recognise the authority of the Vatican.

I know of a Christian church on Renminzhonglu, a few hundert meters east of Xiaoximen, you might want to try speaking to the priests there.

I wholeheartedly agree with HFCAMPO. If you are actually interested in broadening your horizon and non-biased information, just read some books on health issues written by respected academics like the China Study by T. Colin Campbell (Professor Emeritus of Nutritional Biochemistry at Cornell University). He also goes into detail about his personal experience as a member of various panels alongside lobbyists for the big food companies.

I also suggest watching movies and tv series in English, which can be fun even if don't understand everything (make use of the cheap DVDs here!). By looking at the subtitles and listening you can pick up many useful phrases, especially for everyday use. If you watch the films on your computer or a DVD player, you can also hit the pause button to write down interesting sentences or look up words and listen to difficult parts multiple times. That's how I picked up a lot of useful vocabulary and context for using it.

Xianghaiyue moved to an apartment building a few hundred meters from the old location. Now it can be found at 北京路交三桥摩玛大厦一期AA809 so it's actually in one of the small apartments on the 8th floor.

I have to say that of the two dishes I ordered one was really bland, though. I was soft white doufu with some nuts on it, that was supposed to be savoury. The other dish, mushroom "meat"balls was ok and the tastiest thing I had were some spring rolls the fuwuyuan asked me to try as they're not yet on the menu. Atmosphere isn't too great, everything seems to be somewhat provisional and prices are not cheap considering what you get. I paid over 40 kuai for two dishes.

As You Like offers really unique atmosphere and tasty food to those who stumble upon or look for it. Since I'm vegan, I ordered some veggie pizza without cheese and that's what I was served without any discussion. At other places you'll often have to convince the staff to accomodate you and will probably still get something you don't want. But this place only offers vegetarian options anyway, so they're probably used to foreign vegans. The pizza was obviously well made, crispy and fresh! And the decoration has to be among the most tasteful around. I'll surely go there more often.

Went to Sunnyside many times and it's always been worth the visit. The staff are friendly, the massage is great and the atmosphere is really nice. You'll feel that you're in a neighbourhood-type place where people don't treat each other like anonymous walking wallets respectively service machines. There's often some local people enjoying a chat while they get massaged. There are absolutely no cars driving by and it's located in a really quiet alley.

Besides massage, they offer foot bath, cupping etc. Prices are cheap, too: 1 hr massage is 40 kuai.

Went to Huiying because of a toothache around a tooth that received a filling two months ago. I only had to wait for 5 minutes before I was examined by a doctor who seemed very professional and spoke good English when I wanted to confirm if I understood the Chinese correctly. According to his diagnosis, my problem is caused more by receding gums than the filling. It took him just a few minutes to do the examination and recommend an over-the-counter anti-sensitivity toothpaste available at Watson's. They didn't charge me anything and the clinic is very clean and orderly, so I highly recommend it!
