I renewed my licence at the Traffic Police Licence office in the alley on RenMin Xi Lu, just opposite the main gates of YiKe DaXue. Its closed 12-2 and on the weekend. The photocopier was broken when I was there so make sure you have copies of your passport (pic and visa pages) and your house registration from the police(and copy). The small building near the gate has the medical check and photo place upstairs. Get your photos and medical checkup there before heading into the complex and getting your licence test.

I remember in early 2004 they were turning off the water to many residential complexes during most hours of the day, Cui Ming Yuan was effected and I wonder if that type of drastic water restrictions will be introduced again?

If your landlord will foot the bill why not go for a solar heater that has a electric heater as backup?

I bought a A.O Smith Electric heater with tank, it works well, but considering the sun that Kunming gets it seems a pity to waste it.

when we renovated we took our workmen to B&Q to select materials from their excellent range if samples. Then with that list in hand we went to the construction market near Mingbo bridge and got the same materials at either half or one third of the B&Q price.

It's a good place for window shopping.
