Forums > Living in Kunming > Getting a chinese driving license

Thanks for this useful thread
I've heard that they ask you why you want to get a drivers licence (by people who gave the wrong answers...) they couldn't even take the test. All they could do was take a train to Chendgu and try again there...

Any advice on what to say and what not to say?
cheers

Forums > Living in Kunming > Where to rend a decent loudspeaker for street performance?

Hey everyone, I have two couchsurfers saying at my place at the moment who would like to have several street performances here (juggling, clown show).

They are looking to rent a loudspeaker to play their music during their show. Does anybody have any ideas where to get that? (they don't want to buy it because it's too heavy to carry around on their travels).

any help would be welcome
cheers

The best deal I found for ground coffee is 18kuai at Paul's shop, it's Yunnan coffee of course.

before that I bought tins of yunnan coffee at carrefour for 35Y not sure how much there was inside, but Paul's is definitely cheaper.

It's a classic bag of 250g (I think)

as for decaf coffee... well you can get tea everywhere :0)

Forums > Living in Kunming > Swimming in lakes?

Thank you all for your input,

@hedgepig : I think I managed to locate the one off Zhaozong lu, is it free though?

anyway good advice on fuxian lake, I didn't know it was swimmable (and so deep, no worries about drought there...) i shall go for a dip some time in the spring! (for now i'm sure the water temperature is far below that of reservoirs... you don't heat up a 100m deep lake in a few weeks...)

@John Xie : could you give me a rough idea where I could find this wild duck lake? no luck on google maps

@dr. chibbles : haha thanks for the info, at least it shows that you can swim in reservoirs (some of them anyway) but I think I'll leave these gentlemen in peace for now!

Forums > Living in Kunming > Swimming in lakes?

Hey everyone!
I've been wondering for some time : is it possible to go for a swim in the "reservoirs" scattered around Kunming? (since of course Dianchi is not an option...)

I was thinking about having a nice hike and swim one of these days.
Has anybody ever tried?
cheers

The museum is closed (until 2015 because of the subway construction) the only place you can still visit is the shed, which is really amazing, you can sit in wagons one century old and be amazed at some ancient looking steam locos built in the 1880s that were still in use in Yunnan ten years ago
the entrance is free and it really deserves a visit. I'm really disappointed about the real museum though...

To find the shed just follow the tracks left of the museum, it will be on your right just before the entrance of a residence As has been stated before : it's hidden behind a tree, so look out for trees :)
