Thank you all for all the ideas and information, that's great, I really appreciate it! The 24 hour helpers or BaoMu companies sound interesting. I think the day care place is across town from him, but worth looking into since some socializing would be good. If you think of anything else, please let me know!

My father-in-law lives in Kunming with his Chinese wife. He needs daily care with the basics - someone to help him get dressed, get up and get around, take him out for a short walk or out in his wheelchair, take him out for meals or cook a simple meal, etc. His wife is much younger, but has health problems of her own and doing all this every day with no help is getting to be too much. There are no other family members here willing to help. I'm visiting from the U.S. and trying to understand what the options are, which is difficult since I don't speak the language. Is it possible to hire people to come in and provide in-home elder care? My father-in-law's wife says most people for hire only want to take care of babies or children, they don't want to care for the elderly. Are there such things as elder day care or nursing homes in Kunming? I've searched online but can't really find much. I have a feeling that these are still western concepts.
