Wow, thanks for all the info! Exactly what I needed, and quick as well :)
We're leaving Chengdu on the 28th so I think flights are definitely out of the question... but as you said there's apparently plenty of other options. I'll look into it.

Hi everyone,
We're planning a trip to Chengdu and have already bought our train tickets to go there, but unfortunately it's been a nightmare trying to get tickets to get back. I've already been to the ticket booth 5 times and they either say "没票了" or "买不了" and keep on telling us to come back later, with the same result.
As flights are a bit pricey, I was wondering if there are sleeper buses between Chengdu and Kunming, and how long they would take? I can't seem to find information anywhere online.
Thanks for your help!
Chloe
Ahahaha ok, that's what I thought... that's Chinese accuracy for you :) Thanks for all the info though, I'll try to get a more specific answer from the school I work at.
Hi everyone,
Do any of you know the dates for the 2012 school holidays? All I seem to find on the net is info about the official public holidays that don't last for more than a week usually. I'm especially interested in knowing the dates for the Spring Festival holiday, nobody seems to have a clear answer :(
Thanks for your time!
Chloe

I absolutely love the food at Lost Garden, it is one of the few Western places I bother to go to in Kunming. Their pizza is great and their brunch menu is fantastic. Very nice atmosphere too! I've stayed in the dorms before and found them very clean, nothing too fancy of course but what do you expect when you pay 30kuai a night... Also, to reply to educatedman's review, I do not think you should expect your room to be cleaned everyday in a hostel/guesthouse, and you also have to bear in mind that not all staff members here speak perfect English, which might explain confusion and a lot of "I don't know"s which actually just mean "I don't understand".
I absolutely love this place! Cheap, tasty Yunnan food in a lovely setting (but mind your head!). The laoban is really nice and the waitresses are usually quite helpful too.
I went yesterday with friends and absolutely loved the atmosphere! Nice chilled-out music, cosy seating and lovely decoration. The waitress was quite nice and efficient, and our hot chocolates were delicious and nicely presented too (girls got a heart pattern in the foam, and guys got flowers ahaha). I havent tried their food so can't say anything about it, but I'll defo go back for a hot drink on a rainy afternoon :)
Getting Away: Jianchuan Old Town
发布者Thank you for yet another very interesting article! I know lots of people who've been to Shaxi, but as far as I know none of them stopped over in Jianchuan to see the old town.

Photos of flash flooding in Yunnan's capital
发布者Great pictures, absolutely love the one of the young guy helping out the old gentleman.

发布者This looks like an amazing place. Great pics too, although I personnaly feelthe over-use of HDR in some of them gives a very fake, video-game aspect to the whole thing. Let the images speak for themselves!
Kunming, Yu Jian's Personal Movie
