Hello everybody,

my name is Martino and i am new on gokunming. I am Italian and soon
i will move to kunming to work as teacher in Yunnan Art University, i am quiet happy about it but my only concern is about the area.
i have never been to kunming before but i find out that the Chenggong area is pretty far from the city center..
is that a nice area to live in? is it well connect to the rest of kunming? metro? is the area around some kind of interesting?

any suggest or help would be really appreciated!

thank you very very much!!

Martino

Sorry, cant access google images right now, but if you can, maybe that would give some idea?

Have you tried it yet? Can we hear your spontane reaction?

BTW. Sorry, Im not being nice. Rather put Yunnan in the image search and you will get good mood again. Wonderful landscapes.

Dont worry about living in Chenggong but make sure you have weekends/days free, to check around Yunnan.

Plenty of convenient transport from Chenggong and metro coming too (I think so at least).

well.. i tried and not much come out.
i looked on google maps and its confusing. some picture make me think of ghost town, some others looks like the envyroment is great around that place. so i really don't know what to think about! anybody living there?

Yea, I was joking. They are building the area so thats why its not so nice on photos - but Im sure it will be wonderful soon. Hiccup.

Plenty of nice mountains in Yunnan, and even an Italian will be likely more than amazed about Yunnan. Find out about the nature around there etc. Theres transport to Kunming probably every 10 minutes. This is certainly no problem, but Chenggong city is probably a bit so-so.

Chenggong is totally livable, been here for a year and haven't needed to go to city centre for any reason.. but there's many buses to the city running until about 8pm if you need

Cheng Gong first opened about 8 years ago and all the universities eventually moved here. It was a desolate place back then but not any more. All the universities are in relative close proximity to one another and many people have moved out here because of the cheaper rent and new larger apartments. The new airport has been relocated here and in time all the govt offices will also be here.

The new airport is to the east of the city centre, on the map it doesn't seem to be closer to Chengong than the city centre.

Is there a direct airport bus to Chenggong? Seems quite far to travel. I guess it will be easier when the subway connection is working.

HFCAMPO normally your posts are very accurate but stating the new airport is located in Chenggong is completely false. The new airport is further from Chenggong than downtown Kunming!

It is a lot quieter out at Chenggong, I will give you that! A place I don't mind riding my bike to, not too many cars and big open barely used streets. I don't say this as a bad thing, please note!

But honestly, whats this "ecocity" brand on Chenggong. Oh, its getting to the point where one cannot honestly say what comes to mind anymore.

So is there any money left there to build this city up?

A few questions comes to mind.
