and you could VERY easily flip this sentence on its head HFCAMPO:
What is Chinese culture? Smoking and KTV, Watching bad dramas on TV at the Spa, or watching CCTV and beating your wife at home, and robbing and pillaging smaller countries [like Vietnam, Korea, Thailand, Phillipines, et al.]
Yes, the reverse comment is correct. However, China has not been an aggressor nation nor has it invaded any of the countries you described above in many decades. The US and its western allies continue to invade, bomb and murder many other countries as recently as yesterday and today.
I'm not making a comment on international politics—I'm talking about how inane it is to reduce an entire culture (any culture) to a fox-news style soundbite.
@HFCAMPO, I am totally guilty, and I am the first one to admit it. My Chinese grandfather was guilty of it while in a foreign country. In China, I am guilty of it. Seriously, get off that condescending plastic stool, man.
If the truth seems condescending to you then so be it. Grow up and learn that everyone has the right to write whatever they want here.
yes campo, physician healeth thyself.
Karina, I have to disagree with you about there being no Chinese culture anymore. While the revolution did seek to wipe out traces of the past, it did not succeed. For example, if yo spend time in Guangdong and Hong Kong, you will see that rich, traditional Chinese culture still thrives.
Also, thanks all for the comments. I feel a little better now.
Karina, also if you go to a local tea market, you will have that tea ceremony experience. You just have to get out and find your own adventure.
The people who are miserable and refuse to leave are probably stuck here. Working illegally, making barely enough money to make rent and support their booze habit.
like culture in onther coutnries, it is kept alive by the few and ifnored by the masses. they might know a bit about it, but could not identivy the vast majority of peices theyhear. maybe just know a few peices. nisan dorma from world cup, wagner from apocalypse now. some people know about ballet, most don't like it. from what i have seen of ch high culture, it is the same, a few middle class culture vultures and some olds, but the young generation have little if any connection to most of it. i seemore chiggas than chinese culture vultures. i am not judging it, just stating what i see
