Hey, Could anyone give some information about food in Lijiang & Shangrila. I am a vegetarian and plan to travel Yunnan this summber; but worry that I can't find the proper vendors for food. And this is my interested travel plan, 8-day Classic Yunnan Tours by Access China Travel

There are Buddhist vegetarians all over Yunnan, and you will be able to find vegetarian food. Just be careful that it is not cooked in animal fats (as many do not consider this a problem).

Suggest you avoid anything called '8-day Classic Yunnan Tours', or anything similar, & just do it on your own.

I am vegetarian now and you can find "meatless" but not always strictly vegetarian or vegan, especially as you get away from the bigger cities. Even the Buddhists here must compromise and move meat off their plate or eat noodles cooked in broth where meat was present. Tours for foreigners usually have a veggie option so check. But tour food places can be the low end of things so you might want to sneak away and find some stuff for yourself though you would need to know a little Chinese.

"How deep is your love" in Kunming, great veggie chinese food; it's not far from Metro market in North area. In Dali there's a little area with 3-4 vegetarian places, incuded the Pure Lotus, not bad. Just in front a tiny place, big husband and not so smily wife; try their dumplings and the mix appetizers. From there, going down to Fuxing rd, you meet a place on the left where two sisters cook vegetarian dumpling, too. If you pass in Shaxi, go to Hungry Buddha. In Shuhe (Lijiang), if it's still open don't miss the food at Nomad guesthouse.
