Hey guys,
When you fly Kunming to Myanmar, which flight companies do you use to get the best deal? Is it better to go over land? Is it even possible to cross the border these days?
Hey guys,

Hello,
Me I would go over land, just need to apply for your visa in Kunming, then you can take a bus from Kunming to Lincang, and from there an other one to the border, easy.
Hope that will help you a bit.
Sincerely,
Rémi
how long are bus rides? 56 hours?
how many chickens are on those buses?
Thanks Remi
@Magnifico Am I the only one who thinks chickens are cute? Maybe 56 hours is too much though!
Chickens are very cute...when they are in little chicken shaped batter fried nuggets.
I could be wrong but I think China Eastern has a lock on flights to Burma.
Fares however can be cheap, but fair amount of taxes since international. I am not sure if you can complete the transaction on their site, but if not, you can buy that fare at their office in Kunming or maybe ctrip or elong will have it too.
590 rmb fare at time of this post anyways.

Thanks Alex, That's a lot cheaper than my search came up with!
Where is the China Eastern office in KM?
Gmaps. 25.033894,102.722873
or enter 东方航空 baidu maps for Kunming. Should be A.
Or nearby, somewhere on Tudong around that vicinity. Should be a big office with China Eastern on it. 1st floor, kinda looks like a bank for some reason. It's been a while, but I was able to pay in cash and the fares in their system were the same as online at their site. Of course bring your passport, and just to be safe, have a copy of the fare info on paper or in your phone.
Ahhh seems the link I have is for the initial search. That 590 fare shows on 12/24.

I assume it has to do with advance purchase rules and not xmas haha. And wow, yup, lot's of taxes, pretty much doubles the fare. Nothing you can do about that as it's international. So total price of 1155rmb one way. Possibly some discount roundtrip, but not sure. Elong will give some better fares roundtrip than two one ways, but that was for domestic China. Of course, elong and ctrip add 3% for foreign cc.
Is the land border between China and Myanmar open to citizens of third countries these days? It wasn't two years ago when I visited so I had to buy an expensive flight ticket.
What Cloud asked. It won't be 56 hours by bus, but anyway the bus is better, as you have a very good chance of actually seeing something of the country, meeting people, etc. The plane will only give you a relief map, if you're next to the window and it's not too cloudy - worthwhile in terms of 'seeing the country', I suppose, but it's not quite travel.
