Nordica has a pretty well-developed curatorial program, and is definitely dedicated to showcasing local Yunnanese art here and abroad. Your friend's rejection doesn't mean she's not a good artist. Maybe it just didn't fit with the curatorial direction there.

Anyway, it's worth talking to them about possibly using their space, but it's a good idea to have more than just a vague idea by the time you approach them.

Maybe you should just announce a meeting of the "New Kunming Community Theater" or some sort and see who shows up.

Yeah, something like that was done a few years ago, as Xiefei knows - production of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' - standards perhaps a bit less than those of London or New York, but everybody involved seemed to have fun, as well as most of the audience. Put on at Nordica.

From some of the KCT people, Nordica was too expensive. They hadn't planned on charging 50 per ticket, but rent at Nordica.

Xiefei is correct. Plenty of Chinese artists showcase there. Usually Masters level or higher or renowned or overseas. The req drops slightly if your a local Chinese artist. Also, must fit whatever curatorial theme Nordica is promoting, usually modern or post. Nordica did show the art works of some middle and high school prize winners once; that was interesting.
