I'm expecting a small padded envelope with some little craft supplies from the US. It's been a month since it was sent and now I am wondering where I might go to find out it's whereabouts. It would certainly fit into my mail box but it has been suggested that I must pick it up for the International Post Office, even though the label address was in Chinese and English.
Any thoughts or suggestions? I understand the Int'l PO may have moved from Beijing Lu. Anyone know the new location? Any help would be great!
I have had to wait 8 weeks for stuff sent through USPS before. And longer from the UK.
If there was duty to pay, you would have recieved a card or letter through your post box telling you to come and sort it out, and with a phone number to contact for more info.
I would give it a few more weeks. Most things turn up eventually. It is probably already in China but on the slow train to KMG.
Also, add in extra time due to backlog from the Chinese New Year. I was told once that even something from Shenzhen to Kunming would take a month since it was around that time.
1. Post will deliver a pick-up receipt for your international package.
2. Bring your PASSPORT to the international post office on beijing lu (behind the post office) to pick up your package. You MAY need to bring cash if customs' duties or taxes are due. It's across the street from one of the hospitals whose name I can never remember.
3. Be patient - your package will take a LONG time to get here - minimum time is 10 days to clear through customs - even for express mail.
Yes the new area for picking up Internationals is behind the old area, down a little side street that opens up into an parking area. I was jsut there again yesterday. As I recall nothing is marked in English but it is to the right after you enter the parking area.
Yes the PO is supposed to deliver a notice and will probably try, though my last three or four parcels I have had to track down as I never got the receipt. I believe this is a problem with the system at my school and it most likely will not change even if I complain yet once more. The time before last my job called me to say I had a receipt and gave me something. When I showed up at the PO they had given me a receipt for a Chinese teacher that was over a year old! i just did not notice this when they gave it to em in the office. I could speak just even Chinese to let the guy know my job cannot be relied on in this area and he got up and looked for it based on my name only, but I don't think that will happen often if the guy is busy.
This time I used the tracking number of the parcel given to me by the sender. That with my passport got me me the parcel. It took about a couple weeks to get here only, but it would still be there had I had got on it and was sitting here waiting for a PO receipt.
