Why mix in the "Wabang" in here, that is how Chinese call Wa State. Or shall we start calling Shan state Shanbang etc. Napoleon is the first Westerner using "wabang", if he is one, not that it would matter much anyway.

You are right. Money talks here or some heavy connections. Over ten years ago some people used to cross into Burma secretly - say, go gambling to Muse for an hour or two and turn back - but that would be really stupid today. Many years ago there was hardly a border namely.

So anyway this year there was flooding on the Muse Lashio road, and it was totally stuck. What Napoleon wrote about permits to Shan state is total crap, but for some Shan areas you will need them. A good deal can be applied locally. And money talks here too.

I have no idea what your problem is. I said you will need permits for some government areas in Shan state, you then say what I'm talking about is crap and that you won't need permits except for some areas.

Let's not call Shan Shanbang as the Chinese for it would be Dan (掸), so no one either side of the boarder would know what you were on about.

掸邦 (Shanbang) is Shan Shate, its same character for Shan and Dan. Nobody says "Danbang" everyone says "Shanbang". Seems theres not a single sentence Napoleon gets right, even the English appears to be African tribes-English.

Ok, I will ask different way then. Is it possible legally ( with visa I guess ) for Europian or american go from Yunnan to Burma by land?

China crossing

To cross the land border at Ruili (known as Shweli in Burmese and located in China's Yunnan Province) / Muse (Myanmar, Shan State), you will need to arrange a special tour package by filling out this form; the package will include a guide and mandatory private transportation. You will need to apply at least one month in advance of your travel date.

If you are travelling from China, an alternative is to go to a travel agent in Kunming. The Myanmar consulate in Kunming may tell you that the border is officially shut, but this, in fact, will probably not be the case.

Yangon, Mandalay and Kunming all have embassies or consulates where you can apply for the relevant visa (Myanmar or Chinese). For details, go to embassies and other useful information.

It is not permitted for foreigners to cross at any other China-Myanmar border points.
