If you have the cable, any USB charger will do the job.

If you don't have the cable, I think it is a standard 8 pin connector to USB.

thanks but it is an iPhone 5 with the new, smaller connector and the while thing is faulty (there are bugs with the new chargers apparently.)

Yes it has an 8 pin connector, which is smaller than the old one. I am not sure if this is an Apple only connector or an industry standard item.

There are a couple of Apple Stores in Kunming. Not genuine apple stores, but I was lead to believe that the gear is genuine. I can't remember which road it is on. Do a search for 'Apple Store' on here.

Still try the area in the link I sent. There will very quickly be generic chargers on the market. Probably are already.

1. taobao.com for either the genuine or cheaper knock-off cables.
2. Apple China store - they're online and you can order the genuine article for full MSRP.

Thanks for the replies - found a charger cable at an Apple redistributor near the Carrefour in Nanya Zhongxian for 149 rmb.
This is the third time the charger on my iPhone5 has failed, seems to be a weakness...

The charger (depending on where you bought it) should be covered under Apple's warranty. Since you're on your third cable - suggest you bundle them up (the genuine cables) and return to Apple for replacement.

I don't know about China's policies - but Apple USA (if you're in the USA) will usually send you a postage paid box and will usually replace warranty items VERY quickly.

Thanks for the heads up on the iphone5 cables though - the iphone 4S is looking like a much better toy...
