I have two laptops that need attention.
I need a tech savvy person to fix this, as this sort or stuff is beyond me. Preferably someone in the Beichen or Dianchi area.
Laptop 1 is early lenovo think pad.
Message I get is "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\WINDOS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM......etc.
However I do not have the set up discs for computer and I have no idea if it is running XP or 2000 or what.
This is English language version.
I assume a complete install may be needed.
Laptop 2
Running but very slow and it cannot connect to the internet. I suspect a virus that won't let it connect. Looks like it is running Win2000 or XP, and Chinese language version.
Please PM if you can help, we can then maybe talk by phone.
What is your goal ?
Do you really need to restore them to more or less operational state while keeping current system installations ?
If not, then the best thing you can do is format both disks and do clean installations of Windows 7 (I assume that those PCs are not stone age ones- it would help if you gave us their exact brands/model numbers, "early lenovo thinkpad" is not enough :))
The only thing to consider is whether you have any data that you would like to keep. If so, then you can download a (free) linux distro, create a bootable usb stick, backup data to the stick and then format.
I would be careful when backing up files from the virus-infected one, some viruses infect many different files (such as .doc, .xls and other more commonly used), and you wouldn't like to spread the infection to a new system...
If you find anything above too difficult to do on your own- just post (better than PM, maybe someone will have the same problem in the future).
@ Heinu
The newer computer is fixed.
The thinkpad T61.
It would be nice to keep the data, but it is not essential.
I have no discs to do an installation and it is not something I have done before. I am willing to pay for tech support.
The reason I suggested PM is that it avoids people publishing personal details (phone, email, etc) on open forum.
