CCTV Host Yang Rui

I see Yang Rui is now experiencing social media firsthand. Although the comments were intended as a private citizen - as a public figure - he must be even more cautious about inflammatory comments. Hopefully - he'll learn to be more considerate and generic instead of adding negative labels to hard working, respectable foreign expats who represent upwards of 99% of the expat community.

The plot thickens...This is hysterical. He can say nasty things about others, but don't dare say anything bad about him. He'll sue your ass! I don't think he needed anyone to damage his reputation. He did it to himself. Case closed.

A Chinese broadcaster tonight said he is considering legal action against a blogger who accused him of being a xenophobe for comments he made on Sina Weibo.

Yang Rui, who hosts Dialogue, an English-language show on CCTV News, said Charlie Custer, editor of China Geeks, had "damaged his reputation."

I think that threats to sue will only make Yang Rui look even worse than he does now.

I am not sure what the face issues are in China, for Yang Rui, but an honest apology for offence caused would be his best strategy on the international stage.

Yang Rui needs to realise that he has painted all foreigners with the same brush, even if this was far from his intention.

"The meaning of your communication is the response you get"

Hardly surprising Yang Rui allegedly has such contempt for foreigners. His research department has fed him endless Homer Simpson type characters, seemingly unaware they were there to be exploited. Once in a while they would feed Yang Rui an interviewee who had a chip on their shoulder and ready to serve the Dialogue agenda come what May. Only rarely do I remember this guy being asked to carry out a challenging interview. Admittedly it's a long time since I've watched such trash but I often remember having nothing but contempt for many of the interviewees. Whatever your nationality, no one respects a traitor. Like me, he must have found it sickening.

@TICexpats
Tell your wife to stop being such a shrew! For shrew in Chinese, please use the Jin Shan Ci Ba, Chinese-English Dictionary, the third edition published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press in January, 2010.

Stop pretending to be a tourist while compiling GPS maps, TIC. Shame on you and the double life you lead.

Y-angry states laowais "come to China to grab our money, engage in human trafficking and spread deceitful lies to encourage emigration."

Grab money? It's called working and getting paid, isn't it?

Human trafficking? Expats have been involved in this?

"Spreading deceitful lies to encourage emigration" is probably the most comical comment of all. I've had to fight off hordes of Chinese girls who throw themselves at me to get a visa out of here. I have to encourage them to stay!

I think there's lot of envy in this hateful diatribe. China can't feel too good about more than 50% of its wealthy moving to western countries and taking their loot with them. So it's easier to blame it on 'deceitful lies' than to own up to the fact that a lot of things aren't quite up to the same standards here. Especially the paninis.

By the way, TIC, since you have all those GPS maps, can you help out crazy.laowai find the quickest route to the nearest Wicker Basket?
