McDonald's was a let down here anyway, not like used to, so just see as a crappy copy. Only used twice and I've always loved mcd's in London (to much perhaps as a coniseur) and went few times a week!!

Anyone knows why they stopped serving milkshakes at McDonalds? They still have it in Hong Kong but not in the Mainland. If i remember correctly, they used to serve it about three years ago when i was in Beijing. Is it related to the local milk stories that made headlines?

I'm disappointed that KFC no longer seem to sell original-flavour full-sized chicken pieces. Only those tiny, spicy wing things.

Chinese food in China is so overrated and boring really. HOw much rice or noodles can one person eat until they have to try something different for one meal at least. After you have eaten ten thousand gai fan dishes what more can you expect of such a meal other than to fill the empty void in your gut with the local swill. Some foreigners like to sound hip and on top of it all by knocking western food but they are simply being narrow minded and even immature, as some people here consistently are, thought they apologize in some threads for their rude attitude. People can eat where and they they wish to. China has plenty of fast food of its own. I often see little stands selling brown looking duck necks and weird gut looking things. How this is better than a Big mac is beyond me unless they are one of the "I am one of those cool foreigners who no longer does anything western. I even squat only to poop now. Haven't used a western toilet in years since these Chinese ones are so much better!"" types.

In inferring that only people with a lack of taste in fine food would eat at McDonald' or KFC they must be referring to all the Chinese people that eat there and keep the businesses open since the low number of foreigners in China could not support the places. That attitude also does not explain Chinese people who only eat one region's style of Chinese food and not like the food from other places. Kunming people typically do not like Cantonese food and people from the North East complain about Yunnan style food. Only a small group of Western loathing "ex-pats" fall into a narrow category of "hey, if it's cooked in China, ANYWHERE, I'll chow it down! Cos' I am a totally cool and enlightened dude and love slamming McDonald's and KFC cos' I have refined taste and only eat the best rice noodles cooked in gutter oil with wasp larvae on the side!!!" Yea. BORING!
