A good hamburger?

My opinion is that Prague in BeiChen makes the best burgers in KM outside DIY.

Was in In Dali recently and had burgers at a couple of places around Yang Ren Jie, Horrible.... Nice sized buns, but the burger patty was the size of a sausage patty from the states, tasted like it too.

I could really go for a Charburger right now...

If I could just find something like the Bicky Burger, I'd be forever happy:

- a perfect, not too fluffy bun topped with sesame seeds
- a deep-fried (yes) meat patty
- onions that are fried to become crispy
- tomato, lettuce, sour gherkins
- cheddar cheese
- Bicky sauce (something slightly sour and creamy, not exactly sure what it is)

All the burgers around Wenlin Jie, including the much overrated Prague, are simply bad. How hard hard can it do be to make a burger? And many of those places are managed by foreigners. I once thought the burger at The Camel Bar was okay but my last one was disgusting really and I will not go back there.

Used to buy my own meat from Muslim vendors up here on in NW of KM, but I just couldn't handle the meat quality even from them. Usually has cartilage and gristle all mixed in with the meat which I think is just some sort of water buffalo really. I saw a truck load one time, just boney looking oxen type things.

In the end I have to say that for KM I do McDonald's once a month ot two and that settles my burger needs. Not what I would call the world's best burger by any stretch and not what I ate back in the states, but I run up and get a Big Mac now and I am soothed until the next full moon. The locals just cannot do a burger and that is that.

Samoana Cafe has the 'GIANT BURGER' -the best burger in KM. Kiwi style burger with two giant real meat patties, juicy tomatoes, egg... only 40rmb and that fills you up for the rest of the day.

If you don't like this style, they have plenty of other burgers, they are really good. All sorts of yummy food and drinks, also including a snickers milkshake, mint/choc chip milkshake, 100% juice, etc. to compliment the burger.

Be prepared to be very full!f

A good burger is not plain, unseasoned beef. You must at least havesalt and pepper, or it has no flavour. How can you eat favourless beef? I never understood how so many Americans love bland, flavourless food!

Best burger currently is at the irish pub in Beichen, An awesome piece of cow smothered in cheese and topped with enough bacon. Served with proper chips or a salad of your choice and all for 40 kwai.

Great American burgers ARE made with at least salt and pepper. And much more. Jeesh. Unless you have only have eaten burgers at McDonalds or Burger King. Some people really think the extent of the diet in the US is KFC or McDonalds.

And the Giant and Best burgers mentioned above I would proceed into trying with caution. The Samoana burger promoter says it comes with an egg!!! I have yet to have a decent burger in Kunming. These posts sound like the owners of the place to be honest. Who has an egg on a hamburger, or even with it? This sounds like a Chinese burger. Like those ghastly Chinese sandwiches at Just Hot, where they feel they have to have three slices of bread, and then tuna between two and god know what else between the other two slices. Why can't they just make a sandwich! And why do all burgers here have to have cucumbers on them! Not even good cucumbers. They simply have a surplus of cucumbers here (and cherry tomatoes) and put them on everything.

I have heard a couple good reports on the burger at the Irish Pub way the hell over in Beichen, but it is a long haul from where I live for a maybe. I have learned to take raves with a grain of salt. Definitely avoid the crappy burgers at The Camel Bar and the way overrated Prague Cafe. You pay a lot, wait a long time and then have to try and eat something that is evidence of the fact the preparer has never eaten anything other than rice noodle soup all their life. All the other places, The French Cafe, Salvadores, The Box.... should all be arrested for false advertising regarding their "authentic" and "homestyle" western burgers and cuisine.

An lets make sure, 40 kuai (not kwai) is about seven American dollars these days! They make it sound like they are giving you some great deal.

I had an O'Reilly's burger and it was pretty good for Kunming. That is not saying much. The sucker was piled with stuff and stood at least 3 inches, closer to 4 I think, tall. I am not sure who the skyscraper is supposed to impress but this burger lover found it excessive and messy. The meat was way too thick.

Egg in a burger is disgusting. DISGUSTING! As BillDan says, it ain't American, it is DISGUSTING.

A real, good tasting, authentic, honest to God burger is a simple thing with a couple of tricks to improve the taste. Grill the bun. If a cheeseburger, melt the cheese on the meat. JEEZ!

I will go to any place and, with my own stuff, and teach the owner(s), staff, chef, cook, or flipper how to make and cook a hamburger. Just PM me. No cost to you.
