@Jasmine & dream maker, hundreds of english speaking expats living in Yunnan daily read these forums, and i cannot speak for everyone, but personally you have done much to damage the reputation of agents locally in my mind. I was thinking of trying to work as an extra as i thought it could be interesting and fun but you have killed that desire.

everybody should treat this "job" as it is: fix your price, no matter how high it is there's really a lot of money on the table and they can pay, never trust producers or agents when they tell you prices are fixed or limited, in case they really need YOU in that moment they will pay, there is no minimum or maximum wage, finally it's just a poker game...

Well my dreams have come true because I only do jobs where I make at least 100 an hour and I have work all the time.

I never budge on my price, and when agents are desperate, they will pay you the money. This goes to show you how much agents actually take.

weekapaughead,I didn't see what you look like? you are male or female? young or old? and the 100 an hour is what kind of work? if it;s a commercial,they only shooting 2 or 3 hours,or one day or few days,they don't need many foreigner,maybe only one guy,maybe 4 people,and they think you are worth to pay,and you dont have other competitor, they will pay.

but if it;s a Tv or movie,it;s take 3-5 months shooting.have 200-300 crew,many actor,they have to pay 200-300 crew's accommodation,and their salary,rent camera,rent the place for shooting,transport...so many things need pay.they will not pay 100RMB an hour for an foreign extra.for example 50 an hour,you think the pay is low? depend on how you account.

for example,in one month,you get a commercial work,in one day,you get 200-800RMB,depend on how many hours.this commercial work only one day,finished.
a Tv play shooting in kunming,one shooting day,sometime is 400,sometime 600.in one month,you go to do extra work 10 days.you will get about 4,000RMB-6,000RMB.

as you said,you only do the work they pay 100 an hour.so you will only do this one day commercial work.so this month,you earn 200-800RMB.

anyway,you should know,what do you have? what they want?what your value?
if you don't mind lost this work,ok,you can ask whatever how much.but if you don't want lost this work,you should thinking a acceptable price.and do you have competitor,someone can replace you.someone's price is lower than you? they will not tell you.you need find out yourself.you should know your situation.

for example,if you are beer,if the buyer live in downtown,near him have 10 shop sell beer.he don't must choice you,but if he live in suburb,near him have only one shop.he must buy you.but if the price very hign,he will give up.for example,a bottle of beer is 6RMB,if you offer 12RMB or 20RMB,and he is rich,he will buy.but if you want 600RMB.he will not buy.he will choice something else,or take a taxi go to downtown for buy beer.I hope you understand what I mean.

yes,business is business,your agent or someone else have business with you,yes,you are not friend with him.but he is not your foe as well.are you believe you can force someone give you money? someone hate you will give you money? maybe one time,but never have second time.how to create win-win in business? the key is try to learn to be nice to people.especially in CHINA!when you can make more and more people likes you,the mean you will make more and more money!

I worked as professional talent and agent in the media business and I worked with 'real' agants. They take their fixed charge usually 10-20% of the contract value.
Even though I worked with Jasmin and agreed with the price which is far too low, (even compared to Henan which isn't as media attractive as yunnan). But I can't say that she cheated me. She paid on time and as agreed upon.

There is not fixed pay for talents and usually the "good" agent, by trying to get his pay higher will try his best to get the highest pay for the talent.
There was a price catalogue for a while how much a talent should earn but then the middle-men complained because they could only get a good salary and not rip people off anymore.
That was about 8 years ago...and even at that time it was beyond what Jasmin is paying these days.

Jasmin tries to get both, the production company and the actors for every possible cent. So at least she shouldn't complain about actors giving her crap for being so tight on her cash or letting her down.

Also most companies operating with a budget from production companies in Shanghai, Beijing etc. so the money comes from there and the shooting location has nothing to do with the range of the pay. Except if agents want to squeeze as much $ as possible.

I also gave her some advise about the way she works but seems like it didn't get heeded.

Also Jasmin should keep in mind that she needs you (the actor) more than we need her. So no need to insult us/them teachers and so on.

So here comes some advise for the ones that have a proper chinese level and it helped me plenty of times.

When you get to a scene, when there is a break, talk to the Assistant Director, he is always happy to have an extra number of a person he can trust.

From what I know, is that they hate agents, they sometimes ask for a previous talent that the agent won't contact, in case they find out how badly they have been skimmed.
They know agents are greedy and don't do good work. Sometimes a foreign bloke can get more actors through calling some buddies and usually coordinates better, because he/she has an interest in doing a good job and keep his face. Trust me they like to get your contact details.

Most important; people like Jasmin aren't really agents, it gives real agents a bad name and they already suffer enough. Jasmin is just making a good business for herself without the ethics and fairness of the business....the few that exist.

Every agency has a belly-up budget if a company doesn't pay you, you use money from there to pay your talents, if you care about repeating business. But if you put all that money in your own pocket there is no room for belly-up cash.

Plus reputation is everything in this field of work,I don't kow you well enough but yours is already pretty bad, I'm sure there have been a few bad foreign talents but I never heard so many people complaining, for justifyable reasons, not even in BJ or SH.

Nobody cares about the production company and what they have to rent and buy etc. People want to get paid fairly and companies do pay more than hundred per hour (which is below standard in Beijing for more than a decade).... no need your excuses. You are an almost-agent. Nobody cares about your personal issues and probelms, your stress and excuses. Thats why people work with agents so they can do their job and leave. Stop complaining, do a better job, pay better and everything will get better.

Plus being nice in China is not always received very well...in general it's a great rule but as foreinger, being nice often equals "naive, optimistic" which Chinese business associates could take as weakness at least in making money or being treated fairly.
