Hi,
I'd like to pass the theory test for a Chinese drivers license. Can anyone post a link for a preparation book? All the previous links are timed out.
Also, I still haven't seen the address of the place I can take the test
in Kunming. Road name and no. would be helpful. Thanks for your help.
As has been mentioned before, there is no need for a residency permit to apply for the driver license test, just a valid visa is fine (unless things have changed now, I doubt it, but you never know in China). When I originally registered for my test in late 2010, that's all I had and it was accepted. You could claim you are in the process of obtaining a residency permit or other type of long-term visa if pressed, even if you aren't, but this is unlikely to be asked. Apart from English, other languages are available too, including Russian, Korean, Japanese, German and French. I'm not sure how many of these are actually available at the Kunming location, but you can always ask if you would rather do the test in one of these languages instead of Chinese or English.

hey, I took the test in december, can`t remember the exact address but it`s in Guandu, Traffic police department or sth., I used to take bus 107 from Jinma fang I think( about 40 min. ride there), Anyway, if you check a map of KMG, it`s easy to find. I think it`s a good idea to pay one visit there before the test, they can tell you all the information about what you need to do and where (have your original licence translated etc...) and also copy the complete latest preparation material for the test to your USB and tell you exactly which part you need to learn (I remember there is an extra part for motorbikes or so...if you consider taking that too, you should go there and make sure you can- it depends on you current licence too...). Me, I went there on a Friday, got all the info and then passed the test next Thursday, leaving with the licence in my hands :) Good luck!
Thanks shamolihua. I'll check it out. Does anyone have more specific information about the address. I will go by scooter, so I'll need the
name and the street no. of the place. Thanks.
Real bummer. As I rode a 125 CC motorbike in Taiwan
for 4 years (no papers required), I thought I could at least
get a license for a 125 CC after passing the theoretical test,
despite the fact, that my drivers license says motorbikes
up to 45km/h only.
Does anyone know about more flexible officials in other
provinces maybe?
I really don't have enough money
to get a 125CC license back in my country.
I don`t suppose you can find more "flexible" approach than Yunnan...in Jiangsu they didn`t even look at me without having an "officially stamped" Chinese name and a minimum of one year residence permit, when I asked about the DL... so...maybe try... Gansu...:) ? Could be easier to bribe someone at least...;)
Anybody got some information about doing a practical test for a 125CC?
Do I have to take lessons? How much does it cost? Where? Thanks
I know this is an old thread, but it doesn't answer one of my questions. I am about to begin the process to get a DL, but I read you must take a translated copy of my American DL. The problem is that I have let my American DL expire. Is this going to cause problems? If so, do you have any suggestions to get around this?
Sorry, but trying to bump this up.
