I'm planning a cycle tour to Tenchong/Ruili/Nujiang on the October 10. I plan on taking the night train from Kumming to Dali on the 9th and then departing Dali by cycle on the 10th. We will need three days cycling to get to Tenchong, which we will explore for approximately 2 days.
Afterwards we will continue on to Ruili or Nujiang. We need to decide which destination would be best. The tour will require 12 days in total and we will return to Kunming by bus. For those of you with time constraints you can return to Kunming by bus from Tenchong.

This is an opportunity to explore Western Yunnan in the safety and convenience of a cycle group.
Tenchong is famous for its hotsprings and National Geographic volcano park. Lots of stuff to do and explore. Nujiang is the second deepest river gorge in the world. Much of the area is protected by the government and the scenery is absolutely gorgeous. We can also visit the tropical city of Ruili bordering Burma. I know this is short notice but we have 5 days to prepare for this tour. Since the trip will span 12 days, I estimate (?) you will need about 1,500 RMB to cover all of your expenses hotel/food/bus/train etc.

Hey I have cycled from Tengchong to Dali, opposite of what you plan to do. I suggest a few more days, there are some large mountains in between the two! Tengchong is surrounded by geographical barriers from both sides. If you decide to go to the Nujiang (I have cycled that as well) I suggest taking the bus up and cycling down. It takes two full days to cycle all the way down to Liuku from Gongshan, not something you need to do twice! I have not been to Ruili, but it sounds like the more suitable choice, as you would be backtracking from Tengchong if you went up the Nujiang. Add more days to your trip, if you havn't left yet that is! Is this your first time touring?

Thanks man, I'm back in kunming now! I cycled like this, Dali-Yongping-Baoshan-Tengchong-Yingjiang-Ruili, five days in totle, the first 3 days was shit, the mountains were huge, especially from Baoshan to Tengchong, I used 11hours on the bike, holy shit! But I really enjoy it, by the way, this tour line is my first time to ride! I love it, it's great(It was a pity that I went by myself)!
