I'm looking for a place where I can buy a course of anti-malarials; preferably Malerone but will settle for Doxycycline. Can anyone help?

They're for Laos

For Laos, reasonable, although I have never used anti-malarials there either, and I lived in Vientiane for a year, have friends who lived there longer and don't use them either..

I'll be up to my neck in thick jungle for a couple of weeks.

I agree with Alien. With nearly 15 years in South East Asia, I don't recall anyone getting Malaria. Usually most people tried to avoid antimalarial meds due side effects.

Same here, and I lived in Laos too. Trekked there extensively over years, and only place with slight risk is near Cambodia border forests during rainy season.

Yea, some health maps do point Laos as "malaria area", but they havent updated them since 1970's and thats probably bcs some lazy UN workers who like to hang in local brothels and drive with SUV:s on their bill gates malarial money holidays, keep Laos looking as malarial as they possibly can.

Dengue is more likely, if theres an outbreak. Not long ago there was and those mosquitoes came inside Yunnan too. Jinghong hospitals filled to brim.

Thanks for the info and I agree and am aware of the malaria hotspots in SE Asia. Maybe I should have been more clear when I posted the original request.
However, that aside, is there a place I can buy anti-malarials in Kunming? Does anyone have experience of buying anti-malarials?

It is very hard to get anti malarials in Kunming.
If there is any posibility of malaria in the area you are goig to then they sell

anti malaria medication there as well. So buy it on the spot.

It will probably be much cheaper as well.
