I'm considering doing a PhD in economics in Kunming (in Chinese).

Does anyone have any experience with Kunming's doctoral programs?
How well connected are professors in Yunnan university (and other schools)? How are the literature seminars, how often do you get to attend conferences? How about networking opportunities?

Any insights would be appreciated.

How well do you know your intended supervisor? Is he going to be open-minded and easy going? Is he going to actually invest time and energy to mentor you? Is he going to actively contribute in the papers to be published? Once you do your best to ascertain this, then look at how successful the students before you were at finding a job also thanks to the name of his lab (and perhaps his connections).
There are many Chinese professors who do not pay enough attention to their students, do not pay for their participation to conferences and generally behave rather despotic.
Key is finding the nice guys to unlock the many opportunities you have now in China versus the badly funded Western research!
