David went missing in Yunnan 12 years ago, either dead or supposedly kidnapped by North Korea. An intriguing read though rather long it's interesting especially if you've travelled Yunnan.

Here's the most recent article regarding David suggesting he really is in North Korea possibly even working for Kim Jung-un as a tutor.
Don't believe it for a minute.
I know for a fact that there are a permanent staff of 6 teachers, all British, sent to Pyongyang to work for the BC in Pyongyang's Universities and people in government departments. The qualifications for this job require a PGCE and a CELTA. Recruitment is controlled by the head of BC in Beijing and teachers are given a short course in Shenyang before going to Korea.
The head of English at PyongYang University of foreign studies is a South African, used to be head of department in UNISA - He works on a year by year contract where he is payed his complete salary in RMB at the end of the year, one pay packet per year - But it'a a big 'un.
The head of (a) department at Kim II Sung University is a Brit who sends Koreans to Britain to study computing - This guy used to work in SI-UK. This job was advertised for in the Telegraph of London newspaper around 2 years ago.
On top of this North Korea runs it's own university in Jilin which has a large foreign staff and has foundation programmes ran by experienced professionals brought in from Europe. It also, like the South, runs it's own private schools around China - There is one in Hangzhou.
So knowing all this, the Yankee propaganda machine is expecting me to believe that instead of advertising in a foreign paper, instead of asking the British Council to hire someone, instead of drawing from his pool of highly qualified professionals, instead of asking one of them to recommend someone, a man of immeasurable wealth has instead said ''I need to brush up on my English, is there any chance you could kidnap me a teacher and hold him here under duress?'' and then added that the ideal fit would be an American who is working for the South Koreans, clearly hates the country, has yet to graduate from university, loves backpacking and has not a qualification or a jot of experience in the ESL game.
If you're believing this you're one of the gawping maws. Yankee propaganda doesn't much stand up once thought is applied.
Shame on you OP if it was the propaganda angle, if it was the Yunnan reference then it makes for an interesting read.
I didn't write the articles Napolean. Neither did I say I believed it. Calm down. Yes, you may be right. David is still missing though either way.
Your Yankee propaganda quote made me grin, seeing as we're discussing North Korea.
There's plenty of Yankee propaganda about North Korea, but this sounds more like it was produced by UFO believers with creative imaginations. Either that or Sneddon is there and is a convert to the local nationalist religion.
You see Alien, you were the one asking for local expat news not long ago and as soon as one gets posted you bring up ufos which in actual fact are a fact.
There was this eccentric Australian woman living in the Tiger Leaping Gorge. She died in some mysterious circumstances a few years later. Who knows, maybe some of them Khampas there excercising some of the traits they used to be famous for. If it wasnt years ago, someone might even want to try to connect these cases and see if it did lead somewhere.
And hopefully the family knew, that if there was a good reward (say 50.000¥ those days) for crucial information solving the case, then for the sake of money, there would have been a lot of local solving around the case. Maybe not too late, but still very late...
if guy turned up with his wife in nkorea. plausible. maybe nice mormon boy lost his cherry, fell in love, decided he could not go home with baby in tow, dissafected with merica and church, defects to nk as protest. welcomed with open arms by nk as a propaganda coup. very easy to get called as tutor or leader. i was asked at a dinner if i would be private tutor to some big wig. he telles people he has private fortign tutor, but i never seen the guy except at a couple of dinners. im just adding to the pool of speculation here
I also thought that could be a plausible possibility too, Dazzer.
Relating to this Yunnan story, a couple of other incidences spring to mind of foreigners going missing in Yunnan, though due to unfortunate circumstances. A young guy who died in Dali. He was trekking alone or something. And the family or couple that drowned sailing on a lake, also alone. Just heard about these stories, so not sure of the details.
