Also, does the regular flour for dumplings that is sold in the markets usually have additives?

(Sorry for the consecutive posts...)

In the Yunnan provincial libary there are several books about baking bread.
If you like French style bread pay attention to the book with the title: Flour, water, salt and yeast.
There is as well baking for dummies for the less experienced bakers.

Oh I've seen that book there but haven't borrowed it! Thanks Lemon Lover! I'll have to check it out. I'll try experimenting with some of those ingredients you mentioned as well. Sounds like some tasty combinations! : )

For fast and delicious tasting bread use the following ingredients

5 mins prep time only!

3 cups rising flour
4.5 teaspoons baking powder
Quarter cup brown sugar
2 oz beer of choice
Half teaspoon salt

As it bakes the alcohol goes :(

A scone is a single serving and round. My recipe was for a loaf! The beer replaces the yeast and water that's all. Stick some melted salted butter on top before baking for crispy exterior. Cheese, garlic, chilli etc, optional

Vicar.
The "art" of making bread is to develop the taste of the main ingredient, which is the flour, in such a way that it adds to the flavour (And that in interaction with the yeast). (And in that sense all Chinese bread fails because it is just sweet).
In your recipe you mimic the taste effect of the yeast by adding beer and brown sugar. Leavening is done with enormous amounts of baking powder (Rising flour already contains baking powder). It's a nice trick and can have nice effects especially when fresh. In my opinion scones and soda bread is not the real thing and can only be eaten very fresh. Ok making bread takes a bid longer and if you are in a hurry than this works.
