There are still people alive that fought in the war. I believe they will all be present at the parade, the oldest being 106.
Let them have their time in the sun. They deserve it. This isn't a China only thing. As has been mentioned, there will be events all around Europe.
I agree. Let them bask in the old glory days.
It'll be worth watching.
The French on Bastille Day,
The British Trooping the Colours,
The Russians Victory Day parade,
The Chinese on National Day,
Then there's the Americans who have inflatable cartoon characters and dancers in bear suits ponce down New York streets every year.
Classy.
I am all for this, memorial, if it actually would be one!
Memorial for the veterans, classic warplane flyovers, all good.
But this planned event is nothing like it. It's another reason to Show-off, that violence is a new, -old language of the political arm of the country.
Parading with nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction, scaring the Asian neighbors, whom are scared enough, already.
This is not a memorial day parade, this is a "Hey watch out, we will kill you, some day sooner or later!"
The resemblance to Emperial Japan is striking! "No pun intended!!!!
Is that a German saying that?
Pot......Kettle.......Black......1939...
Yes, why not?
So, I have to be a Nazi, because of my place of birth.
Isn't it a good sign that a German, is stating that!
Read the article I linked previously.
Japan, has not fired a single shot in anger, since the end of the II. W.W.
Germany has not until 1998 [Kosovo under NATO mandate] & 2003 [Afghanistan, NATO mandate w. focus on rebuilding infrastructure and peace keeping].
Both countries have a violent fascist history, but have learned from it. And that as German, I am proud of.
China? ....well, different story!
Enjoy the parade!

@Napoleon
It is actually sad, that an "EDUCATED" person, like you, has to make discriminating remarks like that, as a teacher and sufferer of so much pain, corruption and violence, in Zimbabwe. Shouldn't you know better, about the geopolitical nonsense and irony of an over-militarized country, celebrating it's "chabuduo"-won war, over an oppressor, by flexing it's modern war machinery muscles, showing its soon to be victims, -who the boss is.
Or, are you just trying to offend again?
let the stone throwing commence
@Dazzer
Actually, I hope not.
