China's abandoned buildings

What a waste!

There's a building on Bei Jing Lu that is also abandoned for years. I think the reason is because it was built facing a military station on the opposite side.

I met the guy who sells advertising on the side of the building (the one on Beijing Lu). He says that's exactly why it was abandoned. Some dirty officer sold off the building rights to a developer. When they got to the point where you see it now, a visiting general saw it and ordered an immediate halt to construction.

Why don't they demolish it and build a smaller building? Maybe 5 floors or build a park or parking lot? It's crazy!

Lol, I always thought it was lan mei lo. Damn Canton dialect. There is one of these sitting in one of shenzhen's busiest commercial centers. I've always suspected the owner pissed off some official, but maybe it has a view of some airfield :)

I have a friend that grew up in the military compound. She told the same story; the army stopped the construction. They did not want people looking down at then.

Not crazy. Most countries don't want foreigners staring down into military secrets, taking pictures.

@Marcusmatt,

What's "crazy" is that only in China do they change their mind AFTER the building has gone up. If it is a sensitive real estate, why allow them to develop it in the first place. And once monies have been committed and the project started why should be be stopped on the whine of some official.

And since you show so much concern for the common *Chinese* man. You do realized it is the common people that is ruined financially by all of this right? The developers don't put up much of their own money, they raise funds by pre-selling the property to the public. So when buildings such as this gets halted arbitrarily, it is the common workers that gets put on the street. So where is your outrage?

Dang it, do not type and watch the re-military parade at the same time.

The original post should have read: once monies have been committed and started, why should IT be stopped on the WHIM of some official.
