MasterCard in Kunming

Hi

Can anyone recommend places in Kunming that take master card. I have recently found out that my credit card has a limit of how much cash I can draw at an ATM as I have reached this limit.

No where but Starbucks and Walmart I've found so far take master card, and I did not come to Kunming to spend most my time in Walmart and star bucks.

Thanks

KM has ONE HSBC branch - although it's a Chinese HSBC - however, you MAY be able to use your foreign credit card for cash withdrawals for a fee.

If you contact your home branch of your bank, or customer services of your internet banking, you may be able to make an arrangement to extend this limit. Providing you have the funds to cover this.
Often these limits are automatically arbitrarily set to prevent fraud and reduce damage from identity theft. However, if you contact them directly, and can verify your ID, this can often easily be adjusted.

Hi

Laofengzi thanks I will try Carrefour :-),

I feel I have planned my finances adequately, this is in fact my back up card after my purse was stolen earlier in my trip and card companies do not send cards abroad. As well as a back up card I have kept a decent amount of emergency cash which I am relying on atm is but its not going to last forever, however I was negligent to not study the small print of my back up card as the last thing I thought was the card that is marketed as the best card for cash advances abroad would have such a limit.

I have called them and I am in the process of badgering them, they won't increase that limit even though I have told them I am willing to accept extortionate charges on cash advance. So any ATM advances are out of the question.

I am currently fixing this situation so I can access cash, but that may take a while and I want to make sure I plan my finances adequately in the meantime till it's sorted.

Thanks, I was just looking pizza hut says it accepts credit cards for online payments I might try that.
Unfortunately Wal-Mart doesn't actually take MasterCard.

For foreign credit cards, your best chance is at the Xiaoximen Walmart or Nanpingjie C4 (higher chance). Those are the flagship stores. It varies with cashier, but I have gotten my Visa accepted, but not without luck or effort at times. Worst case, many of the larger hotels can accept foreign credit cards, but that could get expensive quickly. Maybe you can ask your consulate if they provide any services or assistance after theft. I've never used it, but Western Union is supposed to be available throughout China.

Hi,

Thanks AlexKMG, I have managed to send my self a western union transfer online, which I can pick up. Despite western union supposed to be available at all post offices, and ABC banks, after running around I found the one on 233 Beijing Road can do the western union collection and it's only open till 3.30.

Thanks for everyone's help
