Recommend schools to work

I will be arriving in Kunming shortly and will be looking for full time work. Preferably in a public school, but would consider private. Anybody have any advice on which schools to check out?

Get here, go to Salvador's Coffee Shop any evening, ask around - I'm not being dismissive, I really think this is the best way to start: get on the ground first.

It'a a little difficult to check out if you prefer public school, but you can try.

private school maybe a better choice to start, easy to check out.

Public school and private school are usually very different in one main respect. The contract.

Public school contracts' T&Cs are set by central government. They are full time positions in the public schools that provide a set salary (varies from city to city), full time contract (maximum 16 hour teaching week), paid Spring Festival vacation (1 month), accommodation, round trip air travel, visa, and basic medical cover. The hours are within Monday to Friday, and universities are usually mornings only, plus a rare evening seminar, usually 1 or two per semester.
They also honour the contract conditions.

Private schools often do not offer some, or all, of the above. Work is usually evenings and weekends. Usually hourly pay, and no guarantee of work. There may also be periods around exam times when you don't teach, depending on the age of the students.

Public sector schools' pay is lower, but so is the workload. You don't usually get jerked around and you don't need to find accommodation.

Private school pay is higher, but so are the demands on the teachers. Most of the private schools are not really schools, but language training centres. There are private schools that partner with a local school. All of the ones I have worked for have been fine, although not always efficiently managed.

BTW BTW Public sector schools and universities are recruiting now for the autumn semester.

Note. There are some private schools who are recruiting almost constantly on here.

This topic has been covered many times. Hit the Home tab, click on the forums tab and put in your search words in the box on the left. Their are many opinions on schools and what to do. Look in the classifieds, jobs, for school Ads. You will find some who advertise frequently. Prepare some of the documents you need. The PSB is stricter now on what is required. The location of the school which hires you might be important as to where you choose to live.
