Qu Ji Wen Wu Bao Hu Dan Wei - 区级文物保护单位.

Have you noticed some Bronze signs around town that direct you to some Historical sites? These are the District Level Historic Sites in Kunming.

I was only able to find a list for Xi Shan District - www.kmxs.gov.cn/Item/26.aspx

The article includes the following:

National Level = 4
Provincial = 6
City = 10
District = 27

Shi Hua Qiao - Persimmon Bridge - Located on Xi Chang Road + Qi Xiang Road.

There is a Bank of China in that corner - walk 30 meters into the alley of the BOC and you will see the bridge that crosses the Yu Dai He - Jade Belt River. Walk along the river trail and you will find some pictures of the reconstruction and restoration of the bridge. The alley will take you to the Fu Xing Market, Jin Bi Bridge and the First Peoples Hospital of Yunnan on Jin Bi Road.

strange, Yu Dai River seems to only run from Jinbi Rd to Donsi St. Guess its source is probably Cui Hu and it runs underground or under buildings across the city

Just got back from Haikou - that place has really improved and looks great now.

Visited a few of the District level sites there:

1 - My favorite place in Haikou is Liao Yang Yuan (Workers Sanotorium) - Look for the sign that reads Lei Lou (Stone Bldg). This place is really nice and is right on the bank of Dianchi Lake. Must See!

2 - Visited the Yunnan Cement Plant (Yunnan Shui Ni Chang Li) to see the original cement Kiln from the 1930s. A nice man gave us our safety vest and hard hat and off we went - Great Place!

3 - Shi Cheng (Stone City) - This place resembles a small Stone Forest. Great view from the top of the hill.

4 - On the way to Haikou (10 km) or on the way back (35 km) to Kunming - stop at Guan Yin Shan in Biji Town - The temple sits on the top of the mountain right next to Dianchi Lake. Take some panoramic pictures from the top of the mountain and view the lake.

Bus to Haikou is 8 yuan from Xiao Xi Men or from Ma Jie.

Sounds really interesting, thanks. What are those bus numbers from XiaoXiMen? How long does the journey take?

You can cycle to haikou in two hours. Pretty scenic. Bit longer if you take the side roads, but no buses and trucks with their 200decibel horns.

Isn't the workers sanatorium like 6-8km out from haikou town?

Today I visited the Chen Family Garden in Xiao Dao Village next to Da Guan Park. This place also serves as a small museum for artifacts from Dianchi Lake. The best part of the trip was that the curator gave me a beautiful, laminated 4 page brochure with all the District level sites for Xi Shan District. This came in really handy as the website I provided earlier is not working any more.

Now I have more places to visit. This is the best time to travel, no tourists and beautiful, clear blue skies before the summer rains come down.
