So how do I find the Paris Cafe if I'm at the University City subway station?

If u dont need the KM city for whatever reason, the Ch. is perfect place to study. Nice new campus and much cleaner then city. Not milions of people on the streets pushing each other etc.

Downside is, if u want to go to the town it takes quite long time ( get to subway and then 30min on sub. or something like that ) and Im not sure what is tha last subway for coming back.

I live in Chenggong campus and moving there was the biggest mistake I made in Kunming so far. It takes 40 minutes to get to the subway and then at least another 45 to get to let's 东风广场 (city centre). There is exactly one bus to the station which comes every 30 minutes or so. Last train leaves few minutes after 10 pm and the first around 7. So if you want to go out you really have no choice but to party till morning, unless you take a taxi (about 150-200rmb). Not much to do in Chenggong, very few restaurants, shops (plenty of cheap Chinese stores full of fake cosmetics etc though). Shopping for clothes or western food requires a trip to the centre of Kunming. On the bright side fruit and veggies are cheaper, air cleaner and there are mountains around.

all unis have a small bus to subway, or 6 yuan to ride uni bus to kunming campus. hotels near xi zhan/mayuan are 30 yuan for single bed and shared toilet.

Sorry to tell you, Paris Cafe went out of business.

If you are looking for a cheap place to rent, there is a cheap room only 650RMB a month here in Chenggong, with free wi-fi and free electricity and free hot water. and you can pay it monthly, near the extinct Paris Cafe.

also ktv is great late at night. room until 9am, bottle of whiskey, 6 bottles of tea for 200 yuan. they will give you coupon for 200 yuan for room next time (no booze). just drink the tea, and get voucher for the whisky. 6 people can sleep well in a 8 person room. rinse and repeat, each time claim the old bottle on top of the promotion and then get voucher for the alcohol. dont open the bottle just drink the tea. i learned this from my friend...at the end of the month you can treat your friends for close to nothing and look like a baller.

also the villas a few km from ynnu north gate are super cheap. they are 2 floors, 3 bedroom, 2.bath for less than 2000. also need to invest in an electric bike.

Paris Cafe relocated a little way down the same road. Another post on here says that they are still in decoration.
