Don't use an 'interpreter', friend or otherwise. You've got very little to explain because the perceived problem is visible. Whatever 'it' is can be communicated to you in various ways: English, written in Chinese and translated later, shown in a medical book, translated from an online medical dictionary. You are not going to let them do anything because you're going to get a second and even a third opinion. With even limited language you could understand a professional telling you whether it's 'no problem' 'not really a problem' etc. From my limited experience with an eye problem, the doctor will probably make a correct diagnosis and they are quite likely to have sufficient English to communicate the basics. Stage 2, what if anything to do about it, comes later. Much later. Only then you might need an interpreter. Go by yourself because a third party will only relegate you to a mere specimen. They'll talk for ages and you'll learn little. I had a positive experience at Kunming Eye Hospital and very little language was involved.
Here is a tip. Find 1 or 2 English majors in the university and teach them for FREE. Get to know them and in time they can help you with anything you need. University students can skip class at any time to help you. However, this is Not a one time thing. It is a give and take relationship with mutual exchange and learning. This way you can also take care of other probems that may come up in the future.

@I would advise against the Skin disease hospital on Renminxilu - I couldn't get a clear diagnosis out of them and spent some money on meds that worked and some on meds that didn't seem to do much of anything. They use a combination of Trad. Chinese Med. & modern scientific med, which might have something to say for it but in my instance I never felt they were really clear about what they were doing. I'm sure they could do a simple mole surgery though.
There are many "good" hospitals in Kunming. You can find a translator to go with you for a small fee if English is the issue. Or, you could try Richland, which is very expensive.
Good day. Does anyone have any info about western clinics that preform PRP (plateret rich plasma) injections here in Kunming?More specifically knee injections in case of ligament problems. Or maybe someone knows a good Chinese acupuncture doctor, specialized in knee treatment? Thank you.

You can cantact me based on my status of surgeon, if you want.
To add a little more info to Long-Dragons reply, the hospital has Five western doctors, so a good choice to try if you're a western patient and want to be able to clearly explain your medical problem.
Always going to be tough explaining to a Chinese doc when medical terms are not the first thing you learn when it comes to language :)
Thanks for the advice ! Do you know if there is a western orthopedic surgeon that can perform arthroscopy over there? I called the hospital today but they didn't really understand me.Just said to come over :/
