I can't take it anymore - can the owners/website managers PLEASE add a search bar to the home page of gokunming. It <should> reside in the title bar, omnipresent to most all pages.
Making me dive a link or two down to find the elusive search bar is poor design form and essentially non-industry standard.
Or am I just a solitary "voice crying in the wilderness"?
Don't hold your breath. I've been asking about the SPAM button. A global search button is the least they could put on this so called "improved' version. Kinda like the Apple smartphones.
It has been a long time waiting...
here, have this complimentary glass of hot water
@yankee
Thanks - a glass of hot water @Green Lake Hotel was around ¥80 last time somebody tried to save me money there...
I agree it would be nice. But no matter how well the admins implement it, they'll never have as good tech as Google or Microsoft. Easy solution I've mentioned many times before on this site. From Google or Bing, type "site:gokunming.com YourSearchTerm"
This will give you a full list of results sorted by relevance. If you only want to search articles, type "site:gokunming.com/en/blog YourSearchTerm" and you can do the same for forums, listings, etc.
Just really doesn't seem to be much of an issue to me. Google and Bing work better than any internal search function and it's fast and easy.
I concur. Even organisations like Audible, China Daily and the BBC have notoriously poor built-in search utilities. The commercial search engines do a vastly superior job. I don't include Baidu in the latter.
But here's the kicker. There use to be one. I thought that an upgrade was to improve things within the website not make it harder so you have to go outside of the website you're navigating through.
They could integrate google search into the website, like the guardian does. 5 minutes to implement and free within a (quite massive) limit.
