Friday: New outside bar and French party at The Box
The Box will unveil its new outside bar on Friday night and will also be offering French specials including 15 percent discounts on crêpes from its new and improved menu, plus Kir (white wine and crème de cassis) for 20 yuan per glass. Party runs from 6 to 11, entry is free.

Friday: Sea Loving Mammals at the Hump
The Sea Loving Mammals will take the stage Friday night at The Hump Bar for a free show at 9:30. Tequila and mojitos will be on special for 10 yuan and 15 yuan, respectively.

Friday: DVJ Sanli Team at Red Elephant Bar
Red Elephant Bar will host four DJs and a VJ on Friday night. DJs zen°, R, Tea and Chenchen will play techno and house, which will be accompanied by VJ Mao's visual mixes. Music starts at 10, entry is free.

Friday: Get Down at Camel Bar
DJ Franck is back at Camel Bar Friday night with his blend of dance-oriented tunes. Music starts at 10:30, entry is free.

All weekend: Music Festival at The Dali Hump
Just down the road in Dali, Friday night will be the first of a three-night music festival at The Dali Hump which will feature Chinese and foreign acts including Dachong, JP & the Rednecks, Ed & Jack, Fingers Band (from Beijing), Lao Xie and many more. Single night tickets are 25 yuan per person, or three-day passes can be purchased for 60 yuan. Contact the venue for details on who's playing when.

Friday: Exhibition at Rhizome - Lijiang
Further afield, Rhizome - Lijiang will host an exhibition for Lijiang-based artist Mu Yunbo (aka Lana) on Friday night, featuring a massive mural wood carving project and numerous drawings. Francois Lejault's film Dongba will also be shown. The free event begins at 7:30.

Saturday: A night of chillaxing at Moondog
Moondog will channel the Buddha Bar on Saturday night with chill tunes and mellow candlelight. Bacardi Breezers will be on special for 20 yuan. Music starts at 8:30, entry is free.

Saturday: Metal night at Laba
Laba will be taken over by metal bands Saturday night for "Barbarian Invasion Season Two", featuring Death Pact (Parasitic Eve), C**t Killer, Life Imprisonment and all-female headbangers Huadan. Music kicks off at 9, entry is 35 yuan at the door.

Saturday: DJ Hugh Jarce at the Hump
Saturday night at The Hump Bar DJ Hugh Jarce (chuckle) will play "a fatty mix of delicious indie, post-rock, hip-hop, funk, big beat, kinky dub & world music". Music begins at 10, no cover charge.

Sunday: Sunday Roast at Slice of Heaven
Slice of Heaven will hold its weekly Sunday roast with hot roast meat, roast potatoes, vegetables and gravy followed by dessert. Dining begins at 6pm and each roast is 60 yuan per person. Seating is limited - reservations can be made at 15887253680 or bduff98 (at) gmail.com.

Sunday: Frozen night at The Box
For those fond of booze buzzes and brain freezes, The Box will unleash its new frozen daiquiris on Sunday night beginning at 8.
