April 8 to 10 GoKunming Weekend Preview

No complaining this weekend about there being nothing to do in Kunming: there is a LOT going on. On the heels of Thursday's show by Queen Sea Big Shark, there will be six, count them, six live music events on Friday night and an all-day, all-night business and cultural festival and party at Loft Jinding 1919 on Saturday.

Friday: Hip hop party at Laba
Rappers, hip hop groups and DJs from across Yunnan will be performing at Laba on Friday night. The party starts at 8pm and the 25-yuan entry fee includes a free beer. For more info contact Heiren at 15887802674.

Friday: Live music at Laowo
Little Band will be accompanied by Luoyou for a live rock set at Laowo Bar on Friday night. The 20-yuan show starts at 9pm.

Friday: Dual rock show at Skyhouse Uprock
Thai-Korean band Alcoholiday and Lao band Freetime will play Skyhouse Uprock on Friday night. Entrance to the 9pm show is 20 yuan.

Friday: Live music at Moondog
Paul and Joost will play songs from Tom Waits to the Beatles and from Lou Reed to Men at Work at Moondog on Friday night. The free show starts at 9:30pm.

Friday: 1895 Movie Bar celebrates five years
The Great Apes will perform live at 1895 Movie Bar on Friday as the bar celebrates five years in business. There will be several drink and snack specials and owner Yujia requests guests wear slightly "snazzy" dress. She'll even throw in a free drink for sexily attired women. It all starts at 9:30pm.

Friday: Live music and DJs at Camel Bar
Wa minority band Sigangli (司岗里) performs reggae infused rock at the "Welcome Spring" party at Camel Bar on Friday. The band will be followed by DJs Chengcheng and D&D at the free 9:30pm party.

Friday: Kaysar at Mask Bar
Uighur musician Kaysar will perform his multilingual set at Mask Bar on Friday. His show a few weeks back at Laba ranged from a cover of Lovesong by The Cure to something resembling turkish tropicália to ska infused dance numbers. The Mask is holding this last hurrah before it closes for renovation. The free show starts at 9:30pm.

Friday: Funk and soul night at The Hump Bar
Funky funk and soulful soul will be playing all night at The Hump Bar on Friday. Tequila shots will be 10 yuan apiece.

Saturday: Inhale/Exhale at Loft Jinding 1919
The Inhale/Exhale event at Loft Jinding 1919 on Saturday will begin at noon as a fair for businesses, NGOs, artists including 20 from Kollective Kunming and all sorts of other people from around Yunnan. Plus, an all-day live painting workshop, writers' workshop with author Chris Taylor at 2pm, reading by Chris Taylor at 3pm, and a live rock show from The Sea Loving Mammals at 7pm. Starting around 10pm, the event will exhale into a party at Laba, inside the Loft compound.

The nighttime party will have music from The Québec Redneck Bluegrass Project, The Great Apes, and Wa minority rock/reggae band Sigangli (司岗里), followed by DJ Technoplasm. G&E productions will once again be stocking the bar as it did for last week's April Fools' Day party, also at Laba. This time there will be free-pour cocktails and Kirin beers for 15 yuan, as well as a selection of other drinks.

Saturday: Camel Bar Restaurant opening
Camel Bar celebrates the opening of its adjoining restaurant on Saturday with a free buffet starting at 5pm followed by live music from nu metal band Kouxian (扣弦) starting at 9:30pm. The band will be followed by DJ Ninja and DJ Zhao.

Saturday: China5 at Laowo Bar
Two-man rock band China5 stops at Kunming's Laowo Bar on Saturday as part of its Hundred Cities tour. The 9pm show costs 30 yuan.

Sunday: Brunch at Lazy Bones
Lazy Bones Restaurant will have the usual Sunday brunch goodies, including breakfasts, pancakes, Italian specials and DIY bloody marys. The brunch runs from noon to 5pm.

Sunday: Roast meal at Slice of Heaven
The Sunday roast at Slice of Heaven includes roast meat, roast potatoes, vegetables and gravy plus dessert. The reservation-only meal starts at 6pm and costs 60 yuan. Reserve at 15887253680 or bduff98 (at) gmail.com.

Sunday: Happy hour at Moondog
The Sunday happy hour at Moondog includes Tsingtaos for 10 yuan, Beerlaos for 12 yuan, and gin & tonics, screwdrivers and cuba libres for 10 yuan. It runs from 8 to 10pm.

All month: Dangsters Dance Studio is letting two people share one dance card for any of its classes for the whole month of April.

All week: The Kollektive Kunming exhibition continues to be shown at Moondog, which is open everyday starting at 8pm.

Tuesday: Slice of Heaven holds its weekly 3pm knit, stitch and chat club.

Wednesday: All-you-can eat pizza night at lazy bones from 6 to 10pm and students' night at Moondog.
