Holiday Closing: Please note that Lazy Bones Restaurant and the Lazy Bones delivery service will be closed from Saturday, October 2 through the following Tuesday, October 5. They'll be back on Wednesday with the weekly all-you-can-eat pizza and salad dinner at the restaurant.
Thursday: Camel Bar's birthday party
Camel Bar celebrates its 15th birthday today with three live bands and a DJ, free snacks and cheap cocktails all night. The free party will run from 6pm to late.
Thursday: Quiz night at Chapter One
The pub quiz at Chapter One features four eclectic rounds of questions and the winning team gets a free case of San Miguel or Beer Lao. They also get to host the next quiz night, at which time they'll get another free case of beer. The free quiz starts at 7:30pm or so and there is a maximum of four people per team.
Thursday through Tuesday: Nevada Lundemo in Lijiang
Nevada (The Legend) Lundemo will play free live country blues sets nightly at Mamma Mia in Lijiang's Shuhe village through October 5.
Thursday: Live folk music at Laba
Folk group Mimi Houyuan (秘密后院) plays Laba tonight. Entry to the 9pm show is 30 yuan.
Thursday: Iowa Super Soccer at Uprock
Polish group Iowa Super Soccer performs at Uprock tonight. The group is also playing the upcoming Snow Mountain Music Festival. The 30 yuan show starts at 10pm.
Thursday: National Day party at 1896 Sports Bar
Come to tonight's party at 1896 Sports Bar dressed in any clothing that could be considered traditional Chinese, from the dynasties to the 70s, and get a free cocktail. There will also be a live performance from rock band The Great Apes, 10 yuan glasses of white wine and 15 yuan half-liter cans of Valentins Weissbier at the free 10pm party.
Friday through Thursday: Chapter One extended happy hour
Chapter One is running a special 2 to 5pm holiday happy hour from Friday through next Thursday: Tsingtao and Dali, 8 yuan; Beer Lao Dark, 12 yuan; San Miguel and Beer Lao, 15 yuan; cocktails, small for 15 yuan, large for 22 yuan; red wine, 20 yuan.
Friday: Zhu Guangyu at Laba
Well-regarded folk musician Zhu Guangyu will play at Laba Friday. No word on ticket prices for the 8pm show.
Friday: Iowa Super Soccer at TCG Nordica
Iowa Super Soccer follows up Thursday's show at Uprock with a gig at TCG Nordica on Friday. The show starts at 8pm and costs 25 yuan in advance and 30 at the door. Advance tickets are available at Nordica, Wheatfield Bookstore and 1895 Movie Bar.
Friday: Live alternative rock at Laowo Bar
Chongqing-based group Narrenschiff plays Laowo Bar on Friday. The 9pm show costs 30 yuan.
Friday: DJ Alex at The Hump Bar
DJ Alex will play rocksteady, funky soul & hip hop at The Hump Bar Friday. The free party starts at 10pm.
Friday: Indie rock at Uprock
German-based group Honig will perform at Uprock on Friday. The free show starts at 10pm.
Saturday: Dance performance at TCG Nordica
TCG Nordica will host a dance performance choreographed by Chen Jia (陈佳) on Saturday. Tickets to the 8pm performance are 20 yuan.
Saturday: Techno at Uprock
DJ Yan and DJ Maxi will play techno and other electronica at Uprock on Saturday. The free party starts at 10pm
Sunday though Tuesday: Snow Mountain Music Festival
The 2010 Snow Mountain Music Festival Kicks off Sunday in Shuhe village, Lijiang. For more information see GoKunming's preview and the sporadically functioning Chinese-language official festival website.
Sunday through Thursday: Bring-you-own-music at Uprock
From Sunday through Thursday night you can bring your favorite tunes to Uprock on iPod, CD or USB drive for the house DJ to play. The free party starts each night at 10pm.
Monday: MC battle at Laba
The MC battle at Laba on will bring together rappers from around the province to see who can lay down the best raps. Entry to the 9:30 event costs 25 yuan and includes a bottle of beer.
Thursday: Alien costume party at Bird Bar
The owners of the venerable Bird Bar would like potential revellers at their Thursday, October 7 party to bear the following in mind: the most important thing is not that it's the bar's closing party, it's that you'd better dress up like an alien. It's free and goes from 9pm to 4am.

On Friday night at Uprock, Alex Kalmar, a singer-songwriter from Canada, will be performing a short set before Honig get started at around 10pm. Turn up early to watch Alex, he's definitely worth it.
