casual choice? no. those who are too casual in life and can't gtet a job at home are too casual to get off thier asses to go overseas. i think the majority are here by active choice. i also think the majority are not bar flies, there are teachers here who are involved with some kind of career developmment and no everyone here is a teacher. many in kunming are long termers.

@blue sounds like a miserable local. someone else peddling the same old sterortypes, as someone put it. the trap is that in life in both cultures we cannot express schaden freude, so we do it online where we are less accountabl efor what we say, espeicially when using aliases. especially when they use malapropisms.

Swedish design ideas, kunming build quality. i have bought lots of ikea stuff in the past, the furniture at #11 are poor facsimiles of genuine item. Yes stuff is affordable, but poorly made and overpriced in my opinion. we took a good look around and looked closely at build quality and walked away.

When I first arrived in Kunming I did a tour of Wenlin Jie. I did't like the look of Prague.
More recently I have used Prague in Beichen a lot and I like it.

It is more about dumb greed of owners. If their neighbour gets 30k they want at least that, and will let property sit empty for years in the vain hope of getting the higher rent.
