I am interested in relocating from Shandong to Yunnan, and I am looking for a reliable moving company to relocate my stuff. Some of it is rather bulky. example:
Washer, Dryer, Fridge, air conditioner, gas range, bicycles, queen sized mattress, closet and all the other typical living stuff.
I am particularly concerned about moving my appliances. I bought them all new in the last six months, and don't want them getting dented, scratched, dropped etc.
Are there any reputable moving companies in China that can transport my things from point A to point B without destroying them?
I totally agree with the quality of labour in Yunnan. It must be the nice weather that makes people lazy. The workers in Dali show up late, not at all when it rains, and generally do a half assed job. My experience with workers in Shandong has been much better.
I also agree that taobao is the correct way to get good materials. I have ordered some pretty big and heavy items from taobao, and they usually arrive in good working (and unbeaten) condition. You really have to use common sense and read reviews when selecting a seller though. Most of my problems stem from lazy sellers who can't be bothered to pack their items properly. Two of the items I ordered were a Wilo pump and a Toto toilet, and I'm glad to see that other forum members agree with my choices. Go German or Japanese whenever you can.
Next year I am planning on moving from Shandong back to Yunnan, and unfortunately I want to move my appliances and furniture with me. Is there a way to do this without my stuff being destroyed? Maybe one of you knows of a good moving company?
If you plan to ride the bike for more than six months, I would advise against a cheap one unless you have low standards and like having it serviced frequently.
Let me share with you my experience of a "Gammax" brand bicycle I bought six months ago for 900rmb. This is an aluminium framed 21 speed mountain bike. I found a defect in the frame and one of the rims shortly after buying it. Despite having a 5 year frame warranty I was unable to get the shop to replace the bad parts even after constant pestering.
This bike comes with a mix of bottom of the barrel Shimano parts and some off brand stuff. Pretty much all of the offbrand stuff is creaking or rusting. Lowend shimano holds up a little better but still requires constant tinkering. I've already replaced several parts.
Keep in mind 900 isn't exactly cheap for a Chinese bike. Just imagine what a 300rmb bike is like. I highly recommend Giant (check out the "momentum" line) or Merida. I bought a Momentum for my wife and the quality is quite a lot better than my Gammax.
I am fortunate enough to have been born in Canada, and had ZERO problems getting my wife into the country as first a regular tourist and then as a permanent resident. I wasn't even a permanent resident of Canada at the time I applied for my wife's PR.
Even from Canada with PR she was still rejected entry to the US several times. This is not a problem for most Chinese nationals living in Canada. The problem stems from the fact that I am a also a US citizen, and that somehow proves I intend to smuggle my wife into the country illegally...because after all, the healthcare and social services in the US are just SO much better than in Canada...NOT!
There aren't enough four letter words in the dictionary to express my burning hatred of US immigration policy. I endured 10 years of bullshit living in the US and being treated like human garbage by immigration officials (to be fair, the US government doesn't treat citizens much better). While I no longer live in the US (and don't plan on ever moving back), unfortunately my sister and parents do. I've been trying for five bloody years to have my Chinese wife visit my family for Christmas without success. My wife is equally pissed off and has vowed to never step foot in a US consulate/embassy again. My dream is for my parents to move to another country so I don't have to deal with this nonsense anymore.
I think some of the advice posted above would probably get your wife into the US providing you are willing and able to jump through all the hoops. They want to see bank accounts with lots of $$$$. As mentioned above, the U.S. gladly accepting hordes of illegal Mexicans and African warlords only rubs salt in the wound. I guess they figure people with good education aren't willing to do hard farm labour on a peasant's wage, and/or don't want to add competition for a dying middle class already ravaged by 30 years of unpatriotic outsourcing.
They have this program in many cities in East China. At least the city I'm living in it has been successful. I agree 15RMB is too much though. It should be more like 100RMB per month.
Despite the problems, I am still very impressed with the speed at which this line is being built. As I've mentioned before, in Toronto they've been promising extra subway lines for decades.
This article pretty much confirms what I suspected about line 5. At this stage, it's still possible they could pull the plug on it. I don't seem them finishing it by 2017 as originally envisioned. I'm even skeptical it could be ready by 2020.

发布者...and I say that, because that is what it costs out East.
