Forums > Living in Kunming > Where to buy curtains in Kunming?

What neighborhood are you?
There are curtain places at the decoration stores area YunFang, next to the HuangChengNan Lu and HaiGeng Lu Carrefour.

South West and on Xiyuan Lu, on the N side around about AnKang Lu, you will see a Boloni kitchen showrooms (big), behind that is a kitchen decoration area. Keep your eyes up and you will see some curtain places on the 2nd floor of the small units.

Also there is a big curtains area in the south near DaXiangHui of GuangFuLu

I am with lemon lover on this.
The OP should ask themselves why they want to use solar power.

Are they sure it is the best choice for them, or are they just assuming this.

From my limited knowledge, small wind is not really an option.
Not sure how big it needs to be to be viable for domestic supply. Don't trust manufacturers blurb on this.

I have lived in the field, so to speak. Washing is essential, but not necessarily showers. Washing clothes by hand is easy. Cooking does not require electricity.
The only thing we needed electricity for was internet/laptop and phone use. You can buy small solar cells to run these and charge these small batteries. I imagine that internet surfing will be minimal if you are meditating, by your own admission a fridge is not essential. If you are growing your own herb, then shelf life may not be a big problem.

Solar electric (PV) power is not the best choice for many uses.

PV is good for low energy uses, that draw low amps. Like led lighting, radios and computers. It is not so good at running machinery, like washing machines, or heating water.

There are PV LED lights on the market for about 200rmb. There are sensors on them, and after dark they will come on if they sense a person approaching. Really good for paths to the outside toilet.

The other solar power option is solar thermal, this can be used to store the suns heat, to heat water and provide some heat. You can make solar thermal yourself. Black plastic water tanks on roofs, or using central heating radiators, painted black, in a glass fronted case.

The solar water heating systems being manufactured in China now can produce water that boils (our neighbor has this problem) because of the efficient heat exchanging systems they use.

NB A small generator, may actually have a smaller environmental footprint than solar PV, if you consider the whole life cycle from manufacture to disposal. It will also be cheaper to set up (2000rmb or less), easy maintenance. Any motorbike mechanic (plenty in Asia) can work on them. PV are thought to only be good for about 10 years, and so there is actually very little saving.

I would also come here and live in a hotel, or get a short term lease.
Until you get here you will get no feel for the market. Or local services.
Actually, I know some people are allergic to agents, but you can get them to do a lot of work for you. The real estate market here is fiercely competitive.

One important thing to realise about the market. Houses are bought and sold here in days, not months. Renting is the same. Also landlords can be very flexible, and this is where an agent comes in handy. They may not be flexible on price (all they seem to care about here), but will be flexible on other T&Cs. Like adding or subtracting furniture, appliances, etc.

Price of processed coffee here is the same as back home. If not more. Local cafes are also paying local wholesale prices, which also seem high.

Most of the beans shipped to Europe are raw beans, and they are shipped in large sacks. The coffee is then processed by the 'Brand' holder. I would assume that coffee roasting in EU/US is done on a much larger scale than it is here. Even in than the scale of processing in Yunnan. There are also a few locals roasting beans here, they will not be buying bulk raw beans as commodity market prices. They are also fairly new and most have a lot to learn. Although they are themselves cutting out middle men, I do not imagine their margins are high.
Local cafes will be buying processed at these same higher prices, more so if it is imported coffee.

Ref French Cafe.
I was there the day, and service was very good. They must have taken on board the criticisms. Some people may still be slagging them off based on past experience. Such criticism is perhaps no longer valid.

Loads of sports shops around the Stadium on DongFengDong Lu, East of BaiTaLu. In stadium perimeter and on DFD Lu.
I have seen them in Metro but only one size remaining last time I went.

Blobbles, if there are not trees, you may be able to make out farmers routes on Google Earth. You can sometimes.

If you have personal GPS you could also check progress by pre-defining lat-long from Google Earth before you leave home and write them on a print out.

Just an idea.

This has moved.
The cut flowers are about 700m east on Duonan Jie. The plants and trees are about 700 m west and follow Duocai Section.

A reasonable choice of lumber that has improved over time. Fancy hardwoods like walnut, and mahogany are in abundance. There are some plywood and rubber-wood boards available. There are also some kiln dried imported softwoods and merbao available. Some of the lumber is very green, so look for the kiln dried if you need stable timbers.

Echo everything said by others.
Breakfast great and the serve from 8am. Most other places say 9am and they still are not ready.
Sandwiches are cheap 22-32, and really packed full of filling. We got some sandwiches for a day out, the only mistake I made was ordering two, as this was too much. These are seriously good sangars, and they are wrapped in alu foil.

In fairness to Metro, they are a wholesalers, and not really a supermarket. Hence the need for a card, which can be got around.

They have improved in the year I have been away. They now carry a more consistent range of imported foodstuffs and they also seem to have sorted out the mported milk supply.

They have a wider range of electrical appliances now, there is a coice of more than one toast. There is also a better range of seasonal non foods, like clothes, shoes, garden furniture and camping gear.
