I think you can buy gingerbread in Chinese bakers. You may also be able to get if from Wicker Basket, or Barbara in Slice of Heaven may be able to bake a batch for you. There are lot of other rectangular cookies on the market (Carrefour), if it is just construction you want. But using gingerbread itself may add a lot to the experience and save you having to explain what ginger bread is and 'no it isn't bread'. LOL
There are recipes for soft icing on line. Look for the recipes that use eggs and milk. You can buy icing sugar (confectioners sugar) and disposable piping bags in Metro.
The path is probably well worn now. My concern would be the weather. It will certainly be cold. Perhaps others can say if there is likely to be snow and ice.

I had a similar thing two years ago. My father was terminally ill with cancer, but he asked my brother not to tell me, until the final days. My brother's wife was not happy, but she never is.
If you are a student or traveler in China, perhaps you should go home. If you are working here, what follows are my thoughts about what might apply.
If you have no family commitments here in China I can see some family members think that you are shirking your duties. From personal experience, I would not let their resentment leverage guilt. That is their strategy, and IMHO an unpleasant one. I also know that family members like that will probably be on your case no matter what you do.
Even if you are single, you have built a life/job/career here. To expect you to just give it all up is more unfair.
Also, if you give up your job here, and go home, you will be unemployed and unable to assist financially. Even when you do find a job, you will have other settling in costs.
If you do have a family life in China, your first responsibility is here.
Probably the most effective way you can contribute is to send money home to help pay for a carer. You will be criticized for being selfish, but you will get that even if you go home.
If my memory serves, I think I recall seeing a water slide (looking through side windows) at Fubao resort. Note this is NOT the FB Fishing Port Natatorium, but the other one. If you drive from Kunming and find Fubao Lu, at the end of Fubao Lu there is an abrupt T junction where the multi lane road joins meets the single lane local road. There is a big orange roofed building right in front of you, that is it.
Buses go there, if you drive there is lots of parking. It is also about 1km walk from the new international exhibition centre, I think that subway line may connect here.
NOTE, I am not sure if the resort is open all year round.

Be careful of some local 'experts', they hired one (who was recommended) at our school. The man had a strong political leaning and a very strange view of the outside world. The students had to be corrected on several parts of world history.
Although I have not read any of his books, Jim Goodman (who has articles published on here) has produced a lot of work on ethnic cultures in SW China and neighbouring countries.

And then there is the egg farmer, with the run off from the chicken slurry polluting the north shore. The smell of chicken slurry was very noticeable some days.
Perhaps the authorities should look at local serial polluters before going on the rampage about the occasional bad tourist.

Committees were formed from local people, most of whom were concerned citizens. A Local Agenda 21 document was produced formulated and produced by the group. Members of the local council were present, as volunteers, to look at feasibility, and to make sure that the document was published. I the document out LA 21 group produced, there were about 200 advisers in the group, from industry, academia, local NGOs and concerned citizens (including some conspiracy theorists, tree huggers and doubters) . All lived locally, all were stakeholders.
You may be surprised, but there were no representatives of the UN or big government present at the meetings.
A reasonable choice of lumber that has improved over time. Fancy hardwoods like walnut, and mahogany are in abundance. There are some plywood and rubber-wood boards available. There are also some kiln dried imported softwoods and merbao available. Some of the lumber is very green, so look for the kiln dried if you need stable timbers.

Breakfast great and the serve from 8am. Most other places say 9am and they still are not ready.
Sandwiches are cheap 22-32, and really packed full of filling. We got some sandwiches for a day out, the only mistake I made was ordering two, as this was too much. These are seriously good sangars, and they are wrapped in alu foil.
In fairness to Metro, they are a wholesalers, and not really a supermarket. Hence the need for a card, which can be got around.
They have improved in the year I have been away. They now carry a more consistent range of imported foodstuffs and they also seem to have sorted out the mported milk supply.
They have a wider range of electrical appliances now, there is a coice of more than one toast. There is also a better range of seasonal non foods, like clothes, shoes, garden furniture and camping gear.
