It is a shame that there is no treatment or medication that works for NPD, or thread hijacking.
Not sure that local 'science' has control groups, placebos, or tests the null hypothesis.
The article talks about the waste of giving statins to those 3m who are not at risk of heart disease. What about other 4m people who are prescribed the drug who are at risk of heart disease?
The fact that the efficacy is statins has been called into question shows that there are feedback systems providing data on the long term use of drugs, and this will lead to development of new treatments and new drugs for those with heart conditions. I guess we will not still be treating people in the same way in 2000 years. There will also be millions of people who have been helped to live longer as a result of statins.
Statins have always been controversial. There are other heart meds that are not controversial. Beta-blockers, antiplatelet meds, ACE inhibitors. Most drugs have their problems (inc TCM)
I am another who is glad of my heart meds. I know when I have forgotten to take them.
@yankee
I was being both humorous and serious. That is what I have done in the past in new neighborhoods.
Same is true for cheap lunch at around noon, just see where all the 'he fan' is coming from and retrace the path. It should be both cheap and good.
Congrats to both of you.
Expect to get into a few near misses in the first couple of weeks while you learn the 'rules of the road' as practiced in Kunming. Then after that it should be easy.
Word of advice, always carry 200 cash with you. If you get into any scrape, even a touch with no damage, even if you collide with a heap of rust at zero kph, they will want compensation. If you are in the wrong the cops will hit you for 200, and the other guy knows this and so will want 200. It can be better to pay, rather than foul up the traffic and waste half an hour. Or you can haggle them down to 100. If you are sure it is there fault then you can, if you wish, demand 200 yourself and wait for the cops. The cops will probably get you both to agree to forget it if there is no damage, and then fine the person in the wrong.
I have found it easier just to have a conversation in Chinglish laced with Anglo Saxon and give the other guy the money. Not waste time, unless there is a cop already there, wave at the guy as you go and wish in all the best for the future in your best Anglo Saxon, and with a smile.

Great to know it is no longer dry.
Good review BTW
This has moved.
The cut flowers are about 700m east on Duonan Jie. The plants and trees are about 700 m west and follow Duocai Section.
A reasonable choice of lumber that has improved over time. Fancy hardwoods like walnut, and mahogany are in abundance. There are some plywood and rubber-wood boards available. There are also some kiln dried imported softwoods and merbao available. Some of the lumber is very green, so look for the kiln dried if you need stable timbers.
Echo everything said by others.
Breakfast great and the serve from 8am. Most other places say 9am and they still are not ready.
Sandwiches are cheap 22-32, and really packed full of filling. We got some sandwiches for a day out, the only mistake I made was ordering two, as this was too much. These are seriously good sangars, and they are wrapped in alu foil.
In fairness to Metro, they are a wholesalers, and not really a supermarket. Hence the need for a card, which can be got around.
They have improved in the year I have been away. They now carry a more consistent range of imported foodstuffs and they also seem to have sorted out the mported milk supply.
They have a wider range of electrical appliances now, there is a coice of more than one toast. There is also a better range of seasonal non foods, like clothes, shoes, garden furniture and camping gear.
Year of the Rooster
发布者I wish a happy and prosperous New Year to all. Especially you Roosters out there.
Popular night market locations closed, ban appears permanent
发布者What is really annoying is that if you park on the side of the road, that does not have designated yellow bays, you can get a ticket. Even if the road is empty and you are not causing any kind of obstruction. Whereas, if you park on the sidewalk, no ticket.

发布者Thanks Patrick. As more of us are having a stay-cation each year, this is really useful.
Big thumbs up ;-)

Kunming to put 45,000 public use bikes on roads
发布者299 deposit. So I am in effect buying a bike, and paying a small fee to allow me to ride it around the city and then park it anywhere and walk away.
I understand the need to fund the scheme upfront, but I would prefer it if my rental fees were drawn down against my deposit, until used up. Why? Because if the scheme goes belly up I would not see my deposit returned.
Sorry if this sounds cynical, but I have not had enough bikes of mine stolen yet to make me blasé about giving others my money.
