Forums > Travel Yunnan > Thai visa for foreigners in Kunming

It was a few years ago, but the Thai consulate in Kunming would not issue visas except to Chinese passport holders. They also gave me some BS that i could get a two month visa at the airport in BK, apparently there is such a thing but nobody could issue me with one.

The upshot was that before 30 days I had to do a border run to get my visa renewed. This seemed to be the norm at the time. Even teachers who worked there had to do the border run every 30 days. On the plus side, there were lots of bus companies that did regular border runs. It can take a day out of your schedule, but you get to see more of the countryside. Alternatively, plan you itinerary so that you are near the border on day 29-30.

Forums > Living in Kunming > Rolling tobacco and filters

I have only seen cigarette papers and filters on Taobao, but not imported hand rolling tobacco. The tobacco in the markets is probably local pipe tobacco which is a raw tobacco that smells like cigars, which may or may not appeal to you.
With cigarettes starting at about 5rmb per pack there is not much of market for Golden Virginia etc. although you could crack open the cheap cigarettes.
You could try the stores that sell the vaping kits to see if they stock paper and filters.

Off topic, but related to theme songs. When we watched terrestrial TV we listened to the whole theme, even if only in the background while we quickly made a cup of tea or finished off some other chore. With streaming, or watching box sets, we quickly FF over the theme song and titles. We are missing a lot of great music.
Everything else said by the last two posters can be captured within the idea that we no longer live in a society, we live in a market.

This has moved.
The cut flowers are about 700m east on Duonan Jie. The plants and trees are about 700 m west and follow Duocai Section.

A reasonable choice of lumber that has improved over time. Fancy hardwoods like walnut, and mahogany are in abundance. There are some plywood and rubber-wood boards available. There are also some kiln dried imported softwoods and merbao available. Some of the lumber is very green, so look for the kiln dried if you need stable timbers.

Echo everything said by others.
Breakfast great and the serve from 8am. Most other places say 9am and they still are not ready.
Sandwiches are cheap 22-32, and really packed full of filling. We got some sandwiches for a day out, the only mistake I made was ordering two, as this was too much. These are seriously good sangars, and they are wrapped in alu foil.

In fairness to Metro, they are a wholesalers, and not really a supermarket. Hence the need for a card, which can be got around.

They have improved in the year I have been away. They now carry a more consistent range of imported foodstuffs and they also seem to have sorted out the mported milk supply.

They have a wider range of electrical appliances now, there is a coice of more than one toast. There is also a better range of seasonal non foods, like clothes, shoes, garden furniture and camping gear.
