Forums > Travel Yunnan > Lijiang dissapointing?

Centre of Lijiang old town is no longer populated by locals. It is owned by people from richer provinces in the East, and Taiwan. Something the locals complain about.

@LouieK - Yes you can complain about overcrowding. To say you cannot complain about something you contribute to is not a reasonable argument. It is like saying you cannot complain about pollution, noise, food prices, the rising cost of rent, etc. etc.

Forums > Living in Kunming > Worth getting TESOL diploma and Acadia TESOL school

If you have been teaching for a few years already, a TESOL qualification will give you little you do not already have, or can't learn from a book.

Also, it is a diploma. A diploma can be unclear academically, sometimes about half of a certificate. The thing is to look at the total number of hours of supervised study, not including self study. Compare this with the other courses offered by the main providers in Thailand.

If you are thinking of the need for officially recognised qualification you need a CELTA, Cambridge TESOL or TEFL equivalent certificate.

However, there is currently no requirement for qualification when teaching in China.

If you are looking for a good book on teaching EFL look at 'Learning Teaching...' Jim Scrivener. It has all the theory that you will learn on a CELTA course. There are also CDs with video you can use to learn to critique.

Off topic, but related to theme songs. When we watched terrestrial TV we listened to the whole theme, even if only in the background while we quickly made a cup of tea or finished off some other chore. With streaming, or watching box sets, we quickly FF over the theme song and titles. We are missing a lot of great music.
Everything else said by the last two posters can be captured within the idea that we no longer live in a society, we live in a market.

This has moved.
The cut flowers are about 700m east on Duonan Jie. The plants and trees are about 700 m west and follow Duocai Section.

A reasonable choice of lumber that has improved over time. Fancy hardwoods like walnut, and mahogany are in abundance. There are some plywood and rubber-wood boards available. There are also some kiln dried imported softwoods and merbao available. Some of the lumber is very green, so look for the kiln dried if you need stable timbers.

Echo everything said by others.
Breakfast great and the serve from 8am. Most other places say 9am and they still are not ready.
Sandwiches are cheap 22-32, and really packed full of filling. We got some sandwiches for a day out, the only mistake I made was ordering two, as this was too much. These are seriously good sangars, and they are wrapped in alu foil.

In fairness to Metro, they are a wholesalers, and not really a supermarket. Hence the need for a card, which can be got around.

They have improved in the year I have been away. They now carry a more consistent range of imported foodstuffs and they also seem to have sorted out the mported milk supply.

They have a wider range of electrical appliances now, there is a coice of more than one toast. There is also a better range of seasonal non foods, like clothes, shoes, garden furniture and camping gear.
