Forums > Living in Kunming > Liposuction

Agree with Dolphin. Liposuction isn't cosmetic surgery but a type of minimal invasive surgery, which still puts it in the surgery category and risks associated. You hear the same death related stories in the US regarding liposuction also.

Don't think CF or Walmart carry frosting anymore. But Metro might have some. Of course, Wicker Basket should be first check for anything baking related.

Forums > Travel Yunnan > SIM cards for dummies please

I know some mobile operators in the US offer flat rate international travel packages for a month. You might want to check with your carrier.

For your sim swap question, yes they'll have a sim that will fit your iPhone, and if put in a China sim, you calls, SMS, and data all go through a local China carrier, so you can't get billed by your home carrier.

Forums > Travel Yunnan > Tiger leaping gorge hike with kids

I think they're trying to give their kids a memorable experience so it's probably ok to go back. But lemon lover is right, you're in for a let down compared to 1997. But your kids will have a great time and ace the trail.

Make sure to NOT go during dry season, or your kids will be the ones let down as the gorge water is a shallow tame river, and not the rapids worthy of the name Tiger Leaping. Weather is unpredictable in the gorge as it has its own quick changing microclimates, but as experienced hikers, you'll be fine and have the kit for it.

Edit. Just read your going in Jan. Don't bother, that's low dry season. Your kids will just be bored in there.

Forums > Living in Kunming > How do you deal with aging parents?

Well if you're just hanging out in China or doing the language lesson travel explore plan, and a brother or sister back home has to take care of your elderly parents and experience all the extra time and expenses and stress that can cause, well, yes, you're shirking your duties. If you're just not at a point in your life to go back and help, then you should offer some future commitment to help or earn some extra money to send to the sibling caretaker. But as Alien says, it's going to be different for every individual case.

Dian Dian is not a hat, soup, or stir fry. In China a raccoon looks like a cute exotic dog sized panda. She is probably dressed in bling and sitting in the back of an Audi.

Kidnapped makes a good headline, but they are really smart and viscious critters and if she was forced to flee or wanted to flee, that's what happened. Also, forcing a raccoon to do something against its will...well just take a look at the picture eating a biscuit...and that's when it's friendly.

Never gotten sick once at Sals. Their food is TexMex, so yeah, not authentic Mexican food, but pretty authentic as TexMex goes. Burrito wrap has improved a lot. Like the draft beer option now.

If you haven't had dairy products in a while, and do eat here, best forgo the sour cream. Nothing wrong with it, in fact it's the best sour cream in Kunming, but if you've eaten Chinese for month or months with no dairy intake, your system will react to sour cream or probably any liquid dairy product not so well. Maybe that's what happened with nailer and tallamerican.

Update:

It's now 5 working days for regular processing. So I submitted my application a bit before 5pm on a Friday and was told to pick it up next week Friday after 5pm.

Cost is now 400rmb for a single 30 day entry. Or that was what I was charged anyways. There are no posted prices and its cash only with no receipt except for your passport pickup. That's like $65 USD.

You can pay another 150rmb for 2 day or 100rmb for 3 day processing. For 400rmb, they should process it in three days like they used to before, but now you'd pay 500rmb. The office is still like deserted most of the time, so why does it take longer now and cost extra. If you opted for 2 day, thats like $90 usd. All other neighboring countries charge like $25usd.

The rest of and cope review is still good for hours and location.

Far out, less people. Big enough to get lost in. Pretty and quiet near dusk. 20yuan entrance fee.

Like everyone else says, best Indian food in Kunming. They have lunch plates and dinner plates. Show up before 1pm for lunch.

They are on the 4th floor of the half empty shopping mall. Best way is too take the elevator past the KFC around the corner from Starbucks.

Most individual dishes can feed only two hungry guys, so order more if you are starving. Naan order can take care of one only.

Five stars for the food. Go with Yereth's recommendations, plus any vegetable the waitress says is fresh.

Beware that Xue Fu lu is one way, so many taxis have to take a roundabout way to get here.
