Forums > Travel Yunnan > where to book a jeep from kunming to tengchong

@okly: OK, less tiring, and if you've got a window seat and the weather is clear you should have a really dramatic view of Yunnan from the air. On the other hand, the bus trip will be (a) cheaper, (b) will pour less crap into the air, and (c) will allow you to see a lot of Yunnan at ground level, which I find to be less boring than getting to & from airports airports & air travel, which can also involve last-minute delays due to weather, when you can't see the ground anyway. You might consider just flying one way (perhaps return).

@Peter: right - I think most of them are pretty good, most of the time, and hope that keeping the ego-centrism, absurd or badly-attempted humor and so forth (to which I am NOT objecting, in its place - I sometimes find it interesting) on this thread will improve things further. Misfit's suggestion of movie listings is perhaps a good one, tho I've never noticed the lack as I haven't been going to movies here.

Nowhere does the state want to get over the past, especially the one that the state chooses for the purpose of enhancing its own present and future.

A really fascinating period, and Pat has written a fine summary - but there is more. These events, which occurred in what the overall Allied Command considered the least important military front, but were crucial to the Chinese war, which really began with the Japanese taking of Beijing in 1937, are full of good stories and fascinating characters. A new museum to be built in Baoshan will cover the frontier war with the Japanese who came up through Burma, hopefully without intentional distortions.

Not quite what you'd call a jumping place, but not bad at all for rather standard US-type meals, not overly expensive, and with a really good salad bar that's cheap, or free with most dinner dishes after 5:30PM. You can get a bottle of beer or even wine if you really want to, but I've never seen anybody do it - maybe that's just to take out. Chinese Christian run, and they hire people with physical disadvantages, who are pleasant and helpful. Frequented by foreign (mostly North American) Christians and Chinese Christians - was started by a Canadian couple associated with Bless China (previously, Project Grace), who are no longer here, but no religious pressure or any of that. Steaks are nothing special, and I avoid the Korean dishes, which I've had a few times but which did not impress me.

As a shop and bakery, it's very good bread at reasonable prices, of various kinds (Y18 for a good multigrain loaf that certainly weighs well over a pound. Other stuff too, like granola and oatmeal that is local, as well as imported things, including American cornflakes and so forth, which some people seem to require.

Large portions, seriously so with the pizza, which is Brooklyn/American style, I guess. Convivial, conversational, good place to drink with good folks on both sides of the bar, especially after about 9PM.

Really good pizza and steaks. The wine machine fuddles me when I'm a bit fuddled, & seems unnecessary. Good folks on both sides of the bar.
