If you only need the tailor for ordinary adjustments to clothing or drapes or something, there is likely to be at least one tailor near your xiaoqu (there are at least 2 near mine, I haven't really looked around for more) - tailors are not rare here, but what do you need done? If it's some western- or high-fashion thing, I don't know who can do what.

Note that Yunnan accents/dialects vary with location. Don't understand why Yunnan peasants and 'Yunnan mountain tribal persons' are the 'soul & essence of China' - China's a big place, lotta local variations all over, including linguistic ones.

Don't know but there were at least 2 events of off-road competition about 8 years ago in Simao Prefecture, perhaps has continued. Involved very experienced guys from Malaysia.

I remember Beijing-Guangzhou hard seat 30 years ago, I slept where you did - not the best of my memories, and it's still a bad idea to do more than about 6 hours hard seat on a train, in my opinion - considerably easier on a bus, harder and more inane on an airplane - anyway, train hard sleeper for anything overnight works fine for me, considerably better than a sleeper bus.

OK, depends on one's definition of gangsterism, I guess. There's certainly plenty of money made through connections between government & private investors that I'd consider illegit.

I know nothing of the economics of beer-making or distribution but it will be nice if some good craft beers can be produced locally that can undercut the prices of imported beers at various bars & restaurants, as they are getting a bit high - doubt if you can undercut prices of Chinese beers, but in my opinion they're not very good anyway.

Not quite what you'd call a jumping place, but not bad at all for rather standard US-type meals, not overly expensive, and with a really good salad bar that's cheap, or free with most dinner dishes after 5:30PM. You can get a bottle of beer or even wine if you really want to, but I've never seen anybody do it - maybe that's just to take out. Chinese Christian run, and they hire people with physical disadvantages, who are pleasant and helpful. Frequented by foreign (mostly North American) Christians and Chinese Christians - was started by a Canadian couple associated with Bless China (previously, Project Grace), who are no longer here, but no religious pressure or any of that. Steaks are nothing special, and I avoid the Korean dishes, which I've had a few times but which did not impress me.

As a shop and bakery, it's very good bread at reasonable prices, of various kinds (Y18 for a good multigrain loaf that certainly weighs well over a pound. Other stuff too, like granola and oatmeal that is local, as well as imported things, including American cornflakes and so forth, which some people seem to require.

Large portions, seriously so with the pizza, which is Brooklyn/American style, I guess. Convivial, conversational, good place to drink with good folks on both sides of the bar, especially after about 9PM.

Really good pizza and steaks. The wine machine fuddles me when I'm a bit fuddled, & seems unnecessary. Good folks on both sides of the bar.
