I have to make a visa run. Anybody know if Immigration at the land border to HK presents any problems these days?
Problem with nonregistration: if you don't register and you are burgled, the cops could well ignore your problem - "Hey, you're not supposed to be here anyway." My first year or more here I didn't register, my attitude being that having other people keep tabs on me is their problem, not mine. But this about possibly burglary etc. was pointed out to me by a friend and makes sense, and since then I've registered. It's easy. I also knew a guy who didn't register for a week or two who then had trouble getting a visa extension.
But I wouldn't worry about any effect DaWei's nonregistration will have on anybody else.
From Yunnan to Myanmar? What do you mean? Usually wood comes the other way, much of it illegal.
@Yes, why not connect with the International Clinic? But like I said, the daily medications can be brought from Hong Kong, if they are not available here, and my guess is that they are. I have US and Dutch friends with diabetes ( about 60 and about 50, respectively), doesn't have to go anywhere for medical condition, they've both lived here for over 10 years, and the Dutch guy takes long bicycle trips alone. But it's not something I know about - better to ask professionals.

Not quite what you'd call a jumping place, but not bad at all for rather standard US-type meals, not overly expensive, and with a really good salad bar that's cheap, or free with most dinner dishes after 5:30PM. You can get a bottle of beer or even wine if you really want to, but I've never seen anybody do it - maybe that's just to take out. Chinese Christian run, and they hire people with physical disadvantages, who are pleasant and helpful. Frequented by foreign (mostly North American) Christians and Chinese Christians - was started by a Canadian couple associated with Bless China (previously, Project Grace), who are no longer here, but no religious pressure or any of that. Steaks are nothing special, and I avoid the Korean dishes, which I've had a few times but which did not impress me.
As a shop and bakery, it's very good bread at reasonable prices, of various kinds (Y18 for a good multigrain loaf that certainly weighs well over a pound. Other stuff too, like granola and oatmeal that is local, as well as imported things, including American cornflakes and so forth, which some people seem to require.
Large portions, seriously so with the pizza, which is Brooklyn/American style, I guess. Convivial, conversational, good place to drink with good folks on both sides of the bar, especially after about 9PM.
Too bourgeois.
Really good pizza and steaks. The wine machine fuddles me when I'm a bit fuddled, & seems unnecessary. Good folks on both sides of the bar.
Ain't no flies on Salvador's.

发布者No doubt this can become a problem, but it's not too hard to see a solution, part of which should be a set of regulations to stop more private cars, which take up a lot more room and cause a lot more environmental and other damage, being put on the road. However, such a move would likely reduce the rate at which wealth is concentrated nearer the top of society, so it would be quite a political battle to carry it out, and political battles tend to be restricted to certain...(you fill in the rest).
Governor vows to cure "diseased" Yunnan tourism industry
发布者The various forms of silliness in the industry might also be paid attention to (people looking for or expecting paradise, etc., and alternately looking at new 'old' buildings, mountains, and so forth, then expecting to 'get to know' the REAL people, all between bouts in bars or karaokes.
