@Alex: OK, they aren't slaves, but the fact that they have equal rights in law doesn't mean they have equal standing & opportunities in the society. They don't, & I see no excuse for making it worse, and plenty of reasons why it can, and I believe will, improve. What individuals do & don't do does make a difference, and everybody is one.

@Dev, that might get you into Muse but I doubt you'd get much farther into Myanmar. What's so interesting about Muse? Sounds to me you did it on a lark - okay, you got away with it, hope you enjoyed it, but it doesn't sound like it would be worht it.
On the other hand, some people I know have entered Was state illegally through connections with local Wa warlords or whatever on the Myanmar side - not recommended either, but it led to more than just seeing a border town.

@Laotou: rudely waving taxis off just because the cabbie asks you where you're going while you're standing outside the cab is unnecessary. Stop the cab, stick your head in the window immediately & tell the driver where you want to go, in Chinese; then get in. If he quotes a price (rare), get out; otherwise he'll use the meter. ALWAYS works for me, with exception of a couple times (in 10 years) right around 6PM.

Yes, I wish they'd turn their 'cab available' light off immediately after they pick up a passenger - often they don't, but it's hardly worth all this bother.
I don't know what you guys do wrong - for me, getting cabs here is pretty much like getting cabs anywhere else.

Hope we'll have interviews with cabbies soon on gokunming, and maybe we'll all learn a few things.

Not sure where your back home is, so I don't know anything about the morality there.
Racial segregation was an alternative to equal opportunity in the US, as was apartheid in South Africa, until people wouldn't put up with it any more. Equal opportunity is an ongoing project - the alternatives of today are exactly the ones that aren't satisfactory, & lead to the creation of a new alternative which does not yet exist. Nothing stands still. The record of this is called History, and there has not yet been anyone in the record who was not a participant, though there have been many who weren't very clear about what they were doing, and nobody who was completely clear, the devil usually being in the details.

It's a private business that makes a profit by exhibiting disadvantaged people and pandering to longtime, widespread cultural prejudice, thereby reinforcing that prejudice.
On the other hand, the Dwarf Empire might well provide an environment, opportunity and encouragement for these people to organize.
On the salaries/wages: the question is one of human dignity, not cash.
