I havent seen much as a western style scrap yard for cars, evrything seems to be scattered in individual garages.
I know there is one scrapyard though, studying for the drivers test is the section for scraping a car judged unfit for road use...imagine that!
So the only clue I have to offer is look at the vehicle registration department...
I'll soon have a beijing Jeep and will eventualy need parts, many 4wd clubs exist..

I've been hiking and exploring the mountains around Kunming for paragliding sites to fly.
There are beautiful areas just on the outskirts of the city, N,W and E .
Almost every mountain/hills have trails .
North, Ci Ba, pine covered hills and steep valeys with nice views. I go with my electric bicycle or bus.
My favorite is Liang Wan Shan, near Cheng Jiang.
.. 1 hour by car to get there though.

I need to explore 2 mountains this winter / spring, one north of Yang Zhong hai and the other is west of Fuming.

The kunming city air is OK compared to Xi An and eastern coast cities and countryside....I've been there too

发布者R/C Aircrafts, aka "drones" is big business in china but i doubt if any foreigner can get aproval from gov to opperate them since the heightened security measures.
Although if any one out there is interrested in drones for commercial use i'm available as a highly experienced and a long time pilot in R/C aircrafts...

Hiking from Daju to Lugu Lake, part 1
发布者Great hike Adam. The 2 opening photos of Daju valley are exactly what i wanted to see for assessing upper winds to fly Yulong mountain on paraglider. I instantly recognized Yulong's pointy N.E. end from studying that valley on google-earth so many times.
As for getting there you also answered some of my questions and suspicions.
